The Niners are not built to come from behind. We must get an early lead

The 2022-23 49ers are to a large extent the 2016 Cowboys but with a better pass rush.

They are built to win in the trenches... to run the ball down our throats, to confuse the defense with misdirection, to run toss plays, inside zone, outside zone, pitch plays, confuse you as to who's getting the ball, throw a lot of quick passes and screens to CMC and Deebo Samuel, short three-step dropbacks and short slants to Kittle/Samuel/Aiyuk etc.

If you take all of that away (stop all the short stuff and stuff the run) and force Purdy to drop back deep and throw all game, they are very stoppable and beatable. They won't beat you deep through the air. They can't win without a monster YAC game and run game.

The most important thing will be to get an early double-digit lead and keep it. To emphasize, from the coin toss on to stay displined on defense EARLY in the game, stop all the short stuff and dare them to beat us deep. They don't have the QB and receivers to beat us deep.

"Bend but don't break" will not work against this team; if we bend then we will break. We must get three-and-outs. And perhaps most importantly, Dak and the offense must come out sharp and ready to punch them in the mouth and score multiple touchdowns early in the game, to get that early lead.

Throughout the Niners' winning streak they have been playing with leads, large leads, and/or close. They haven't been behind double digits. If we can go up two touchdowns on them, we will crush Purdy like Cousins in the Vikings game and the game outcome will be lopsided in our favor.

I agree. Samuel and Ayiuk are excellent after the catch but these guys are not great route runners or deep threats. Its not Randy Moss types or Amari Cooper types. More like Steve Smith Jr types.

On offense we need to control the ball enough to keep the defense rested. We can't afford to let the defense get wore down.

On defense we need to confuse Purdy. He is not getting to his 2nd and 3rd reads. He is looking off his 1st read and coming back to them. They are just asking to play within the system. He can run when the play breaks down and can make plays off of that.

Hopefully the defense or specials teams can put some points on the board and that will go a long way to putting the game on his shoulders.

Not gonna do that featuring the slow and way past his prime Zeke. Is there any wonder why we start slowly most weeks? When will Moore learn.

We need to score points. Controlling the ball is secondary.

There is like 3 of them left and we all know the names. They have lost the Zeke/Pollard argument soooo badly that its almost comical now when they post.

Eh.

They can score in a hurry, and they’re not stupid enough to abandon the run and make themselves one dimensional.

pretty sure they came from behind in that raiders OT win. However, in all games playing with lead helps the defense and always a plus. this will be close contest. whomever makes the least mistakes , wins.

Good post.

Their offense definitely works much better when they can use the run to setup the pass.

They won't abandon the run or their overall offensive strategy in the 1st half regardless of the score. However, the if they're behind by 2 scores, then their play action will become less and less effective with each tick of the clock.

We are not comfortable at coming from behind either, I hope we get a touchdown up and stay there to the bitter end. John Elway, Jim Kelly and Pat Mahomes have the nerve for that kind of game, but I don't think Dak has and I hope we don't have to suffer it on Sunday night.

Hi Misty, It's hard for both teams to come back from behind because of the running game for the winning team is too good.

Getting a lead early is the best way to beat any team.

San Francisco has a balanced offense. They have more weapons in the passing game than the Cowboys.

Most of the route concepts have him reading one side of the field and most times it's a vertical to stretch the safety and a square-in/post (over route) underneath. They ran that over and over against Seattle, merely switching out the players who ran the routes. When he doesn't have that he will usually pull the ball down, dump it off or try to run. Flush him to his left and he can't really throw on the run. He has to stop and reset his feet.

I put this game on Dan Quinn. If he can't bring a seventh round rookie down to earth with a thud then maybe he SHOULD take a job elsewhere. I know the players have to execute but to let this guy do what he did to Seattle would be some type of malfeasance.

This is true. We need an early lead for the psychological advantage...

They have more weapons but Dallas still had more touchdowns (52 - 50 rushing + receiving) in 2022...and that is with Prescott on the bench for five games. With Purdy, the Dallas secondary must resist biting on play-action like the Seattle CBs did. They have to be disciplined with Diggs, Bland and Kearse when they run because everything Purdy wants to do depends on play-action. From the film on Seattle, they are not asking him to do much, with most of the route concepts being run to one side of the field making his first read easy. If that first read isn't there then he has trouble. Cowboys absolutely want to flush him to his left (like Seattle did) and cover well. Let Micah and the boys get after him. Let a "big" eight man box try and slow down the run. Absolutely do NOT bite on the play-action. If Purdy can beat you with matriculation then so be it. Limit the chunk plays. Tackle well.

With their defense that can shut teams down, an early lead means nothing. If the Cowboys get up 2 TDs in the first half, the 49ers are not going to stop running the football. The Cowboys have to step on the gas and not let up unless they are 2 TDs up at the 2 minute warning.
