Well things are about to heat up and most likely this week. We should be doing some restructures soon and they are probably starting to negotiate with some of the guys they would like to resign before the new NFL year begin. The mock drafts have started and so has the speculation/rumors/ideas about guys under contract.

I read the Fisher idea of trading Smith to Baltimore and at first laughed it off like many of his stories. The more I thought about it, the more it became not such a bad idea. Especially based on the so called experts and draft gurus. Supposedly this draft has a lot of good players not great players but guys that could be really good but none of them are being hailed as certain ALL PROS or HOF guys.

In the NFL, every year come draft time there are the ups and downs in the draft but every few years there is a draft where you just don't have any Ah-Ha moments for the guys in the first two days of the draft. This isn't to say that some of those guys will not be great but it does show that you are almost assured to find guys in the 5/6/7 rounds that are just as good although they may take a year or two to really know.

So if those gurus and experts are right then making a move might be a good thing.

Let's look at Fisher's idea of moving Smith for the 14th pick. Why would Dallas do this? How does it help/hurt the Boys? Does anyone believe Ravens would do it for the 14th pick?

On the surface it looks like pure fantasy but then you look at the motives. Ravens need an excellent LT to protect Lamar Jackson even if it is only 12+ games. It has been a hurt for them for 3 years. Would they do it straight up, doubtful, but throw in Brown and Jarwin then you probably have a deal.

Dallas would not do the deal at all, IMO, unless they already had a plan in place to either move Collins to LT or maybe Josh Ball is more ready than any of us know to take over at LT. Face it, none of us really know anything about what the coaches see in a player or position and what they want to do to improve it. If Dallas is ready to move on from Smith then it helps them in a variety of ways. First from a cap position, those 3 guys would add $14.8 million to the cap and with the obvious restructures coming would be quite helpful in free agency.

I can hear the negatives about letting go of Brown and Jarwin but really Quinn wanted time for Joseph and Wright so I see both Brown and Lewis as trade bait this year especially after good years. It is a smart move. And if one of the rumors is correct about O.J. Howard wanting to play here and he is a FA and most likely far less than Jarwin contract, well it is a no brainer.

The bigger question is LT for me. Steele tried and did at best okay but really good at RT. Collins was a LT in college but how good would he be now, not sure, not sure at all. And Ball well we know the story. His talent is very, very good on the field but off the field in college, not so much. Most of the evaluations were that he had the strength, length, size, foot quickness and athletic ability to be an excellent LT in the Pros. But to me he was definitely a need to be under the Calvin Hill wing to get his mind right. Is he ready, who knows but if Dallas was to swing this trade idea then we know the coaches probably believe he is.

Still how does it help Dallas at OC and LG, pretty easy to see what they would be thinking. First, you highly likely get Linderbaum OC Iowa at 14 because you aren't swinging the trade until Ravens are on the clock and Linderbaum is there. Second, at 24 you are going to have the possibility of one of the OT or OG or DE to chose from or quite possibly even trade down a bit and add say another 3rd. Lots of possiblities.

Same goes for what they may do in free agency although signing a big time guy is out of the question so forget Marcus Williams S New Orleans but O.J. Howard TE, Justin Reid S, Will Hernandez LG, Josey Jewell LB and Dante Fowler are all definite possibilities.

Well let fantasies begin!

Hate to put it to ya, but ....Fish just pulled one over on you. Tyron Smith is a future HOFer. No way in hell Jerry will trade or release him with a live contract. NOT happening

The fact the "brain trust" is prioritizing a britle WR should tell you every thing you need to know about the off season.

From the length of your post (didn’t read any of it) you appear to be one the only one who’s excited about the offseason.

Probably right but been a fan since 1960 so been with the ups and downs so always excited to see what we do that hopefully makes us a better team the next year. Appreciate the board more than most for at least there is a venue to talk about the Boys where for years it was only on an occasional time when someone would actually talk and literally no information about free agents or draft picks.

I’ve been a fan since I saw the Cowboys win Super Bowl VI. I won’t start getting revved up for the 2022 season until training camp. Usually I start feeling it by the draft but I doubt I will this year. I’m losing more faith in the organization each year. The way this season ended really stung a lot of fans. It’s gotten to the point for many fans where they’ve stopped believing. However, hope will never die.

I’m glad the OP is hyped about the off-season and don’t want to kill his buzz in any way…..but this organization truly has the most boring off season in the league. We lose decent players because we overpay mediocrity and pick up mostly JAGSs and overhype it.

party on.

Collins wasn’t a “good” RT this year
No way I’m moving him to LT
I’d be more likely to move him back to guard and Steele to RT

Lol no trading Tryon for a 1 is the best idea ever as long as you can find a completely brain dead to trade with us!

I do not know why people keep saying this about the Ravens. They have an all pro LT who is considered top 3 in the NFL. Apparently they messed up the surgery so he was not able to play this year but he is still under contract for 4 more years. They are not going to be looking for a new LT when they have an all pro. They are certainly not going to trade the 14th pick for a position that they are NOT replacing.

Edit: this is basically like saying the Cowboys should trade their 1st round pick to replace Martin.

Trust me....we won't do ANYTHING big......Booger and Chuckles are scared to fail, because they both inherently know their severe limitations.

This is a classic case of the Dallas media, fans and team overvaluing the talent. Smith is a part-time player at best these days. Any NFL GM that would give more than a third for him should be fired.

Jerry and Stephen are busy planning their annual first-week-of-free-agency vacation. They'll pick up a few scraps when they return.

Some may wish they don’t return.

I never get excited over FA period, as nothing happens to get excited over. As you said, wait on the scraps.

Although I agree with the gist of your comment, the injuries smith had this year were flukes caused by his own teammates.

Let's stop and think about that for a second. They are are prioritizing WR3 instead of investing in either side of the Lines. Thats got to be one of the stupidest ways of thinking. That's like losing a game because a team ran up the middle on you for 250yards and then right after prioritizing getting a lockdown corner
