The Patriots have built up several picks in this year's draft and decide to cash in. Since this is all for fun I say #9 for #28, #33, and #60.

1(28) Derek Sherrod OT Mississippi St- The trade down makes us miss out on Smith and Pouncey, but Sherrod's size and experience will fit well on our line.

2(33) Stephen Paea DL Oregon St- I think Ryan loves this kid's strength and intensity. Him and Rat on the field and the same time would be awesome.

2(40) Aaron Williams DB Texas- Whether its at CB or S I think Williams will have a chance to make an immediate impact.

2(60) Marcus Cannon OL TCU- His weight scares a few teams off, and the Cowboys are able to grab him at 60. Putting him inside at G should strengthen the line.

3(71) Mason Foster ILB Washington- Not the fastest timed speed, but on the field he's a playmaker.

4(110) Edmund Gates WR Abilene Christian- Sam Hurd's replacement, local product with long arms and big time speed.

5(143) John Moffitt OL Wisconsin- We won't have two rookies starting at G, but youth and depth on the line along with the competition it brings will be good.

6(176) Jeron Johnson DB Boise St- Slightly undersized but his attitude should be a nice addition to our special teams and defense.

7(220) Anthony Allen RB Georgia Tech- Will have a chance to earn a spot as a short yardage/ power back if Barber is let go.

7(252) Chris Neild NT WVU- Big-bodied defender that is capable of taking up space in the middle. May be a PS candidate for future development.

Thoughts?

Looks like a hell of a good draft to me

The only way I trade down that far is if I get a 1 next yr the 28 and the 33, even then I wouldn't be for it. I mean what if Sherrod isn't there?

Sherrod isn't Smith so you get a lesser player when you trade down. I've learned that, and in some cases that's ok. That first pick needs to be solid and the further you move down the board the closer you get to Kavika Pittman instead of Tony Brackens.

Carimi vs Smith I can handle trading down for lesser upside for a more known quality and a "10 yr starter". Now I am getting more comfortable with Smith and If my scouts think what Caserly said the other day (That he and others he's talked too liked T Smith vs Trent Williams or Jason smith), Then I don'tget cute and I take him at nine.

Aaron Williams will go late first early second. I'd love o have him at 40, but I just don't think he will be there.

These tackles are all pretty good with none of them coming off a dominant college season, so really its a crapshoot on who will be the best. As terrible as Pittman/Brackens move down was you can't use that as an example to never move down. In 1998, Kyle Turley went at 7, Tra Thomas at 11, Mo Collins at 23, G Alan Faneca at 26, Victor Riley at 27, Anthony Clement at 36, and then Flozell Adams at 38. Flo turned out really quickly to be just as good as Tra Thomas and probably ended up having the best overall career of any of the other tackles.

I want someone as good as Bulaga was for Green Bay. Take the change from a OT around 23, and spend it on another need.

I would make the trade with NE if the chance were there, but I would use extra picks to move back up around #20 and get my RT or starting OG. I would love Paeia at NT, moving Ratliff to DE.

I want quality. If we only got 3-4 players but they all ened up starting within 2 years, I would be stoked.

The players you picked look good. I'm just not sure that any start right away. There could be a bunch there that evenually make an impact though.

So it's 2009ish with better looking players.

No way would I do 9 for 28 and 33. Maybe for 17 and 33 I would.
I agree. That sounds more like it.
