There are some players in the NFL that play well in the regular season but somehow elevate their play far above the norm during the playoffs. They are capable of elevating their play when it matters the most, when the spotlight is on them.
Some of the Cowboys examples through history have been LB Chuck Howley, Safety James Washington, G Nate Newton
and QB Troy Aikman.
There is a very strong argument that Howley should have been MVP for both Super Bowls 5 and 6.
James Washington should have been a strong candidate for SB 28 MVP. In SB 30 Nate Newton dominated Steelers All Pro LB Greg Lloyd.
When you look at Troy's stats you notice that his passer rating increased at every playoff level from divisional round to the SB.
What is it about these players that enable them to play at such an elite level in the biggest games?
One thing is for sure, this year's team needs a few players like that. Which players have that potential to surprise us and have that breakout game just when the Cowboys need it the most?
Watch out for Michael Gallup, Kavontae Turpin and Dorance Armstrong.
