The problem isn’t Kellen the OC, it’s Kellen the QB coach

As a playcaller, Kellen is as good as all the other teams play callers in the league not named Andy Reid.

In Sundays game he had TY streaking down the field and got the team in the red zone before Dak’s inability to see the field killed them both times.

Dak was best with Kitna for mechanics. But don’t know who the best coach is for mentally seeing the field.

I've always been one to rail against fans who speak as-if they could possibly actually empirically have any solid insight into assistant coaches' doing their job well or not.

Coordinators, though, have some obvious track record to the degree that their boss gives them leash to do their job... so assessing them is different than assessing position coaches.

Kellen, of course, is not the QB coach. Nussmeier is.

This is a situation where you've seen the player actually excel during his previous seasons at not turning the ball over.... so, there's at least some ground for wondering more about the coaching than normally would be legit.

But #1... as has been said certainly so many times already... this is so very reminiscent of Zeke's putting the ball on the ground a couple (?) of seasons ago... it seems pretty likely it's been more about the player and his own head than anything else.

But #2... as may have also been said so many times already (I confess, I don't spend a lot of time here anymore)... Dak's posted two 100+ QBR seasons... his first season, under the dearly departed Wade Wilson, annnnnnnnd... last season, under Nussmeier.

I won't argue against a change necessarily, but it would need to be more about giving Dak a different voice, than about an indictment against the current guy.

Opps, I just wrote in another thread how I would like KM to be the QB coach instead of the OC. o_O

Naw. Does not utilize the run nearly enough when it's a proven formula that wins us games. I'm sure he would be great for those older Saint Louis Rams/ Indianapolis Colts teams that primarily pass the ball.

Prescott also has McCarthy as a QB coach with a track record nearly as good as Reid's.

It's a Dak problem.

Right before the half ended, 2nd 2 in scoring position at the SF 35. He calls a pass play with an empty set. That's not good play calling.

You run the ball. Twice if you have to. Burn some time. Get closer to the endzone. Leave just enough time to take few shots to the endzone. Either score a TD or a FG and don't leave anytime for SF. He lacks situational awareness. That's his major flaw. He calls goofy trick plays for no apparent reason. Abandons the run when it's working. etc...

Yes. One play where a player is open means KM is a fine play caller.

Dumb logic. He sucks. And everybody around the league knows it.

Dallas WRs had the least amount of separation in the entire league. So the play caller doesn’t do didly squat to help. Absolutely nada.

Yeah, but that one time, TY was running open.

Hopefully, we can get Kitna back.
He was a high school head coach last I heard .

This whole team has a lack of situational awareness and clock management.
It's a real issue.

Kellen isn't great, he isn't bad....he's just kind of average. He has his good moments and then he has moments where you're like "what the hell was that"?

Read Dak 's scouting report. if there was a coach who could fix it there would be 10 starting quarterbacks coming out of college every year.
Dak is seeing QB gurus every off season. I remember him saying he learned a new motion that added some velocity to his throws, but all he really learned was over throwing, which results in balls being too high.

With 27 years of futility on the backs of all of us life long fans. I felt all 27 years in that one moment. It is not even a hard decision for a high school coach. Does MM have the right to veto? Did MM agree with that decision? I am so utterly confused and frustrated. And I am not dismissing Daks poor play. But Daks contract mandates that he is going to be here...so we gotta have someone in charge that knows better than to pass the ball in that SITUATION!!!!!!!!!!!!

You risk an incompletion and stopping the clock. You risk getting sacked and getting pushed out of FG range or even worse fumbling. You risk throwing an interception. I know you can hold or have a false start on a run play, but I would think your OT trying to get in his stance against Bosa or trying to keep him off your QB on a passing play.....the risk is higher for an OL penalty when you decide to pass there. I mean, too many downsides to throwing the ball just to get 2 yards.

If you are referencing #4...his contract suggests he's not going anywhere. So do we not try to set him up for success? I don't think Alex Smith, Kap, Garraplo or Purdy are better than him...and all 4 of them played in either the NFC title game, Super Bowl or both. And that's just one organization. Not a Dak lover or hater...but he's who we got. So what do you do?

Dak at 30 years old, he is who he is at this point. QB coach might help but I don’t think we’re talking mechanics at this stage.
