It's obvious that we will be doing a lot of SLANTS in this offense this season. Some of the passes look good, some don't. I'm afraid there's going to be guys that will hear footsteps, have balls tipped, and or poor passes that are going to lead to turnovers, from doing this route so often.

I'm not saying get rid of it or anything of that nature, I just feel that there's a lot of room for error using this route, please give your thoughts

I saw Dez run some of the worst slant routes in the history of mankind but they still ended up completions. I do not see that WR on todays roster. I hope that we have sense enough to figure out what our guys can do well and maximize that. I fear that will not be the case.

I feel like we had a lack of slants and an emphasis on curls. I’d much rather the former than the latter, especially since (according to guys like Cooper when he was here) teams seemed to be able to squat on our curls.
Curls only work in press coverage. If the guy is playing off he has a jump on the ball. KM ran them too often and against the wrong defenses
The real key to making any route work besides running a good route is mixing things up. Nothing works if you get predictable

I love it. For the longest time now it seems all of our passing concepts have been mostly based on a limited vertical route tree. I could see the Cowboys using passing concepts very similar to the Galloway/Glenn years. Terry Glenn was so much fun to watch and became a master of tiring teams out with the slant route then hitting a double move in the 2nd half when DBs started cheating inside. Not an exact match but the Lamb/Cooks combo seems to have some similarities to those guys.

Loved Terry Glenn.

This is also a product of the coverages they faced. Teams played a ton of just off, zones. You can't run slants into them.

KM called too many, but defenses played basically prevent defense against them all the time. Forcing guys to just sit in holes.

Noah Brown is no longer one of our top three receivers. Our top three are pretty good at not hearing footsteps or tipping balls.

Slant passes are infinitely better than all those WR screen passes that KM was in love with
Hope you're ready to see a lot more of them this year, because they'll almost certainly be used more as an extension of the run game.

The 2021 opener against Tampa was basically the gameplan we should expect.

Imagine claiming all Kellen Moore did was run curl routes, when Lamb was 6th in the league in yards run, while he was 23rd in total routes run. I can guarantee you a lot of his yardage was gained on crossing routes, as PFF ranked him as 3rd in passer rating on these routes, second only to Waddle and Kupp.

Also, how technique is dope. He’s not the “guy is on the wrong page” type of route runner..

Slants thrown to your back shoulder tend to get popped up in the air.
How about ones that hit you in the chest? Brown should have never been a No. 2 or No. 3 receiver last year. That's on the front office.

imagine claiming Dak is garbage, yet he would have been top 10 in passing if he played full season in 2022 and was 7th in passing in 2021. imagine Lamb being 6th in the league in yards and yet the QB is garbage.
it just doesn't add up does it!

Yeah, definitely a play you need to have perfected in this offense. Curls and crosses too. I'm not saying Dak needs to be Joe Montana but he can't be off by much, especially on the Slants, as you mentioned.

Sure. They can do it, but it helps to have receivers like Michael Irvin and Alvin Harper....oh, and a QB like Troy Aikman.
