This could get ugly... not a whole lot of denial going on here...
Andre Johnson, wide receiver, Houston Texans:
"It is what it is, man. I really don't have much to say about it. The guy's in trouble, and I know he's trying to take everybody down with him. I'm really not worried about it. It's bad. That's something you don't want to see happen. Just being down there this offseason and working out with some of the guys, just seeing the team improve and seeing the team on the rise, you hate to see something like this happen."

Frank Gore, running back, San Francisco 49ers:
Declined comment through a 49ers spokesman.

Vince Wilfork, defensive tackle, New England Patriots:
Not made available for comment by Patriots. Team spokesman Stacey James did not respond to request for comment.

Rocky McIntosh, linebacker, Washington Commanders:
"I'm focused on Indy right now. We got a game in two days and I'm in the NFL. You got to be a professional and worry about what we got right now. I'm focused on Indy. I play for the Washington Commanders and I'm just trying to help my team win."

Colin McCarthy, linebacker, Tennessee Titans:
"I really don't have any comment to make about it. I understand whatever's out there whatever, but really just focusing on the season. Focusing on practicing, understanding what I need to do and just preparing for St. Louis." – McCarthy wore an orange Hurricanes' T-shirt reading "U FOOTBALL" when reporters talked to him.

Antrel Rolle, cornerback, Arizona Cardinals:
"There is nothing for me to comment on this guy. Obviously he is on a rampage to cause havoc. I am just going to let him do his talking because to me it is really irrelevant and don't concern me at this point, I will deal with it at the right time. As of right now, there is no need to comment."

Calais Campbell, defensive end, Arizona Cardinals:
"I don't think I broke any compliance rules and I don't want to comment any more while the investigation is going on. "

Dedrick Epps, tight end, Miami Dolphins:
Denied knowing Shapiro through his agent.

Vernon Carey, offensive tackle, Miami Dolphins:
"It's unfortunate all this is circling around UM. There's a lot of tradition at UM and it's hard to see." – Carey denied knowing Shapiro.

I find it hard to fault guys who were 18-19 years old at the time, the majority of whom came from poor backgrounds. Who wouldn't be tempted? I do wonder though, how a guy like Kellen Winslow Jr, who presumably grew up in well-to-do environment (correct me if I'm wrong about that,) can justify being lured in by that. And also, you have to wonder why he is father didn't warn him about such dangers (again, I could be off-base here, as I have no idea if he and his dad had a 'Ken Norton' think going on.)

I agree with you. The guy is a con-man and talked people out of their money. I have no doubt that he was just as good at talking players into taking money even when they knew it was wrong. When someone like him hands you an envelope it can be hard not to take it.

As for Winslow, I imagine he just got caught up in the culture. He was high profile and this guy obviously targeted high profile players.

I don't blame the kids, but I do blame The U for allowing this to happen. If coaches knew about it they deserve everything they get.

Pretty bad deal for The U but the fact that people are acting (I'm not talking about here in this thread, but in some of the media and fans outside of here more specifically) that what The U is about to get in trouble for right now is somehow new, or uncommon to every big time program, is hilarious.

If you're looking down on the Miami players, and their school, you better start looking down on your favorite school and their players cause they're doing the same things. They're allowing people like this guy to get his hooks in and cause trouble.

It's part of college football.

How do you know everyone is doing it? Was everyone in the NFL taping their opponent's practice as was infered during "Spygate"? This is the cheater's mantra to justify their action. When someone gets caught speeding "I was just driving with the flow of traffic." When someone cheats on their spouse "I'm a guy, I can't help it!"

"Everyone does it" isn't true and doesn't justify the act. Hopefully this event and others that are being uncovered will cause the NCAA to actually change their rules for the better. I highly doubt that will happen.
