So many great story lines heading into to today’s final round at Carnoustie at the 147th Open Championship.
Tiger in the hunt only 4 back in pursuit to defy all odds to win his 15th Major. Speith to become only the 3rd golfer in history to win his 5th major before the age of 25( Tiger & Tom Morris, Jr from 1860’s and 70’s).
A game in which the whole world comes together where Golf begun for the greatest individual championship .There’s no negative personal news hanging over it with drug suspensions or domestic violence accusations.
With so many negative elements in American sports Golf continues to rise above on the American and Worlds stage.Truly a sport of integrity and great skill where talents of all sizes ,backgrounds, ethinticities and cultures come together.
I’ve seen some of the greatest athletes I’ve personally known and popular professional athletes in their respective fields who can’t master the game. I’m so so thankful of the early influence by my father and uncle who took me out for my first Golf experience at the age of 9 over 55 years ago in which Id play in my 1st tournament at age 11.
As much as I love football I love playing golf just as much if not more. And as I woke up early this morning to catch The Open today I find myself reflecting on a life of Golf and watching The Open from those early days when Arnie first made this great championship a passion of Americans to the continued history we enjoy today.
The Modern Era in Golf which begun in the 1930’s when the Masters was added as a Major and the great championships we have in America with our National Championship US Open there is still none greater than the Worlds Championship, The Open. The true test of man made hazards, nature ,terrain and the elements on the shores of where the greatest game in the world was created.
