The 2024 Cowboys were 21st in scoring in the NFL, 20.6 per game and were 27th in rushing yards 100.3 per game, 11th in passing yards per game ( they were most of the time behind in the scores), 27th in red zone offense. They had the 6th lowest yards per pass attempt in the NFL.

The 2023 Cowboys were 1st in scoring in the NFL, 29.9 points per game, 3rd in passing yards per game and 14th in rushing yards per game, and 14th in red zone offense, and 2nd in the league in 3rd down success.

Huge decline statistics-wise is so obvious. Last year, Dak had a career year for most of the year. Last year we had Tyron Smith at LT for 13 games and this year we had on the job training for Guyton and the proven bad Erdoga. Last year, we had Zach Martin play in 15 games. This year, we saw a broken down Zach. Last year we had Pollard and Dowdle. This year, we had only Dowdle, who does not rip off large chunks. He is a good singles hitter on a team needing home run power.

This year's team lacked explosion, speed, could not control the line of scrimmage too often, did not have any very good wide receiver production other than Lamb. Do not solely blame McCarthy. He has the worst wide receiver talent corps other than top WR since 1984-1985. We previously had WR Terrence Williams a 3rd rounder, who complimented the top receiver and made some big plays. We used to have Michael Gallop a 3rd rounder who complimented the top receiver and made big plays. We used to have a shifty WR who could always get open in Cole Beasley.

The putrid offensive stats this year are due to the lack of talent at 2nd, 3rd and 4th WR and the lack of an explosive RB. Pollard was that for several years. Before he arrived, Zeke was that guy. At WR, I have seen improvement from Tolbert in his 3rd year, but if you draft a WR in the 3rd round, he needs to come ready to play year one.

PROPOSALS:
I highly suggest drafting a RB and a WR with two of the top three picks.
Jeanty in 1st, DT in 2nd and a Michael Gallop type in 3rd. Or if Jeanty gone, best DT in 1st, RB in round 2 and explosve ready to play WR in 3rd. No projects, please. Tolbert was project.

Jeanty or one of the very talented 2nd round RB's with explosion plus a ready to play Gallop type WR in 3rd round will boost this team's offense dramatically, along with the natural growth of the three young first year starters in Guyton, Beebe, Brock Hoffman, with a new OL coach. If Tyron Smith retires, I would bring him in, at least in training camp and pre-season, to help coach the OL.

Jeanty could be the Tony Dorsett of the 2020's in boosting the team's explosiveness single-handedly. He can be the driving force of red zone scoring like Emmitt Smith, who averaged 16 rushing TD's in his first 5 seasons, and who had longest runs of the year ranging from 42 short to 75 long.

losing Pollard without a suitable replacement, our ailing and too young offensive line and QB play is what I attribute to our O demise.

still need a reliable defense as well. Unless we become the 1999 st louis rams, we will fail due to a lack of defensive reliability.

The offense for two seasons has no playmakers outside of Lamb. We need a solid #2 and a stud RB. I’m also contemplating running with Schoon over Fergs now.

Dallas was amazed a 30 year old blocking TE, with countless injuries with 600 yards total in college and 7 TDs was still on the board in the second round. Spoon sux.

I d prefer to go WR over RB in the first round. RBs will be deeper than WRs. WRs are the old RB salary wise as well. It makes sense if you have the opportunity to get under cap space, you address the positions that will cost the most and are harder to replace. We have a need for RB, DT, WR. Jeanty isnt the automatic pick for me. If Mason, Grant are there or I can trade down and get Ebuka, Then Id come back for a RB next round or later.

My mocks have tended to lean:

DT
WR
RB

RB is very, very deep.
But virtually every mock will place Jeanty to us because the need and fit are sublime. Biggest need and he's from Frisco, Tx.

The worst part of all this is the Cowboys are spending $185 million in CAP on offense and $78 million on defense.

I do think the problem with the offense is a lack of talent at the skill positions. When you look at Detroit you see they have 2 quality RB. One has blazing speed and can score from anywhere on the field and did 20 times this year. The other is as tough as they come and can pound out yards. But they also have a really good OL. They have speed at WR and a top TE. They have so many options to defend.

The Eagles have two quality WRs, a quality TE and a RB who just ran for 2000 yards. They also have a quality OL.

Neither of those two team has what I would consider a top tier QB.

Look at the Cowboys. They have CeeDee. Cooks is okay and could be effective if the Cowboys had a legitimate #2 WR. But then look at the RBs. None of them this year are legitimate RB1. Ferguson was a okay but after he came back from his concussion he was not the same. None of their TE can block and the OL was pretty sad this year. Why did anyone think the Cowboys could be successful given their skill position players?

The offense needs speed. They also need talent at RB and WR. The OL can't be so bad that there are no holes. If you watched Ashton Jeanty play his last game the lesson you should have learned is that no RB can be successful if there are no holes to run through.

The problem for Dallas is how do they fix all this in 1 year without dipping into free agency in a big way?

And this is all about the offensive problems. What about the defense that cannot stop the run and got blown out 6 times this season? Of course injuries hurt on both sides of the ball. But without getting much better on both lines, the Cowboys have no chance of competing for a SB.

Jerry just filled the 53 man roster. played spreadsheet math, miscalculated a whole bunch and this is the result. he replaced two veterans on the OL with Rookies, one of which was over drafted. did he think this was going to work? did he not think it will take time to jell? he won't move from steele because of his contract. his play and quality of play are totally irrelevant. he passed on henry to go with Zeke...and refused to bench him and forced coaches to play him to see what he can do (his words). then he made stupid trade for Mingo!!! who was 5th on the jaguars recieving and been in the league for 2 years already. same stupid trade for Lance.he signed Joseph to fill a void at DT, a position of weakness, replaced by a weaker player....what did we expect?

this was to be expected. anyone saying they had hope, just didn't see the picture. many on this board, said this was going to be a disaster.

and he most probably will pick Jeanty if he is there. because Jeanty will sell a ton of Jersey's.

Agree on Jeanty but he is the pick, and will be there at 12.

Recreate those triplets, sell jerseys, win 8-9 games per, hang around that rim, then he heads to Cabo after year three and it’s talked about all summer. Then you’re paying big money to a RB again again claim they have nothing for the trenches.

I have little doubt the next few years are going to be like 84-89.
