I posted that thread back in March. At the time I gave serious consideration to putting Randy Savage at #1 on the Heels side.

In hindsight after writing this post after his death, I really wish I had.

I did something in that first thread that I hate. I compromised. I tried to purposely be balanced. My two lists in that thread are stupid. I didn't need 2 lists, and I didn't need to be balanced. I needed to be honest.

The truth is, I think I was more entertained by Randy Savage than I remembered at the time. I've been thinking about one thing today as I consider watching TNA to see how they will remember the man. That thought is, "Randy at his best was impossible to overshadow."

He just was. I love how he could be asked a question, and give a non answer in some ways and have me completely entertained.

Have you ever seen the old footage of him on Arsenio Hall's Show? Here are two interviews of Macho at his absolute entertaining best. This is how he was when I met him. Engaging, funny, able to amp you up and get your adrenaline up. When he dropped that comment about Kirsten Dunst live on the air, it was pure joy in that radio station studio.

One reason I really dislike TNA was the guy who was a Macho Man clone a couple of years ago. That absolutely turned me off. Someone will tell me Macho loved it. That's cool. He loved my impersonation of him too. I didn't love it.

However, I can't deny I loved the way this guy could entertain. I hope you watch this and laugh just like I did.

Pure entertainment, and he pulled it off without being vulgar. He was honest about everything, including steroids.

People throw around the word Legend a lot.

but in Pro Wrestling he was one of the few true Legends.

Rest in Peace Macho.

Savage may have been the greatest total package of a wrestler. Between athleticism, mic work, wrestling ability, charisma, gimmick...can't really think of anybody who could compete with that. Flair could be close, although I don't think he was nearly as good of an athlete and his gimmick was a ripoff of Buddy Rogers.

I liked Savage pre-cowboy hats days. The feud with Steamboat was fantastic. I was re-watching that on YouTube and remember how great it was when Savage 'crushed' Steamboat's larnyx...then Bruno in the back with the mic talking about how disgusted he was (and I could see why Bruno was so over back in the day...he was great at acting enraged)...then Savage claiming how proud he was of himself for doing that to Steamboat and Bruno attacking him.

Oh, those were the days.

I was never a fan of Randy's for whatever reason..but I completely get why he is legendary. His uniqueness set him apart & he was a great wrestler. Unlike some who just posed the dude had skills. He just wasn't my cup of tea but I sure was sorry to hear he died.

Never had a true "favorite" character back then like I did in the late 90's with SCSA and the Rock, but I was always entertained by the Macho Man.

During every interview, he made me smile and laugh at how intense he was and how his voice/mic acting was so recognizable.

Just goes to show how far the business has fallen since the 80's and 90's.

It might be because he was the first guy to have a submissive, abused valet. It was so easy to feel sorry for Elizabeth because he was always so awful. But I can see how a woman might feel differently about the gimmick.

Do you have a link to those videos? I looked yesterday and didn't have much luck. I still think that match at WM3 may have been the best I ever saw.

Absolutely a Legendary wrestler and a guy that people could make claims to being the best of all time and I'd absolutely listen to them and give them actual merit for doing so. The guy simply had the whole package, the it factor, and was just flat out amazing his whole career.

I've never thought about that..could be why I wasn't a fan...I saw him in person several times & he was quite the show. I saw a pic of him yesterday. It was a wedding photo. I did not recognize him...he was totally bald with snow white beard. I would never have picked him out as MM. He looked older than he really was.
