The timing was just right for saving the life of a 6-year-old girl and for turning a 24-year-old mechanic and father of two young daughters into a hero.

It was coincidence that Antonio Diaz Chacon had come home from work early to spend time with his family Monday afternoon. It was also a coincidence that the family's washing machine had just gone out, forcing them to do laundry a block down the road at a relative's home.

Had it not been for that, Diaz Chacon wouldn't have been there to see the girl thrown into a van as another neighbor yelled for the would-be kidnapper to let the child go.

Diaz Chacon is credited with saving the girl after chasing the van through a maze of neighborhoods to the edge of where Albuquerque's sprawling housing developments meet the desert. It was there where the van crashed into a pole, the suspect fled and Diaz Chacon was able to rescue the girl and take her home.

He didn't think twice about his actions.

Now this guy is THE MAN.

If this had happened in Tucscon, I'd think it was Hos. He seems to always be around when interesting stuff happens.

I read this yesterday. He certainly is the man! Nice to see this kind of outcome for a change of pace.

That man is a real hero, not some athlete or celebrity that is made out to be a hero.

Saw it on the local news yesterday. Absolutely wonderful story. Some crazy garbage happens in this city and it's refreshing to see a positive story. Hero.

Tucson is a big, small city...:)

But if Hos was there, I don't think the suspect would be in custody. It would be more grim than that. I'm pretty sure there are only certain times for violence. And this is one of them.

Story juuust got complicated.

(CNN) -- A man credited with rescuing a 6-year-old girl from an alleged kidnapper came forward Friday to say he is an undocumented immigrant.

Antonio Diaz Chacon, 23, is originally from Chihuahua, Mexico, and has been living illegally in the United States for four years, according to his wife, Martha, who is a U.S. citizen.

Martha Diaz, interpreting for her husband, said the couple are afraid of the consequences of coming forward with his immigration status, but "we know that if God put us there at the exact time to be able to save the little girl -- we know that he won't leave us by ourselves."

Maybe it's wrong, but for some reason, I knew that's how things would turn.

It's no big deal. At least here in Texas, or in Austin even the police knowingly turn a blind eye to illegal immigration. Police Chief Acevedo says the illegals aren't going away. And that they may take your job, but they're not here committing crimes.

OK, Chief Acevedo. I buy that one.

In any case, he should be treated no differently until they set a standard, because apparently this guy is a good person. And INS really isn't doing its job at all for those who are here committing crimes, etc. That is, until that get caught or jailed. Even then, we don't send them back until they serve out their prison sentences, etc.

My point I guess is this guy saved a little girl and if we're going to start being technical, he's probably not a good person to start with.

As far as I'm concerned, Mr. Chacon has earned his citizenship. It's the best and most pragmatic solution. If we want to encourage this type of behavior, there should not be a negative legal consequence for his actions.
