Good teams, even mediocre teams, destroy us in the run game. Green Bay knew this going into the playoffs and kicked the snot out of us. New Orleans knew this and what did they do? Kicked the snot out of us. If Cleveland had Chubb in the opener, they would have kicked the snot out of us too. If you can't run the ball, and if you can't stop the run, you will not win in the NFL.

People are complaining about Zimmer. Quinn's defense created turnovers when other teams were passing the ball because we had ball hawk corners. Quinn saw the writing on the wall about our run defense, which he helped build, and got out of Dodge. You can't put lipstick on a pig and make it pretty. So, Zimmer has his work cut out for him, bigly.

Here's a couple of stats:

Ravens - 15 pass attempts
Cowboys - 51 pass attempts

Packers - 21 pass attempts
Cowboys - 60 pass attempts

The NFL average for pass attempts is 33-34 per game.

Where did the turnovers go? Down the Cowboys throat and out their ^#^.
Pretty much everyone on CowboysZone knew for years all our woes are due to the running game on both sides of the ball. So, tell me, how does any NFL front office not understand the issue and make a valid attempt to fix it? Jone says he went all-in, BS. The only thing Jerry went all-in on was his underpants.

When you get behind by 3 TDs you have to throw the ball to catch up. I don't think Dallas wants to throw 50 or 60 times. MY guess is they would prefer to throw 25 times at most.

But when you are behind, or you can't run the football, you have to do something.

I actually think giving Dak $60 million a year has put too much pressure on him. He is not worth it and I think he knows he is not worth it. But now he has to prove it so he tried to do too much, or more than he is capable of doing.

The Cowboys offense is best when Dak is relaxed and spreading the ball around. If he is forcing the ball to CeeDee and Ferguson every play it makes it hard to do much because those are the guys the defense is focused on.

“All In” to Jethro meant signing his star players. Too many fans misinterpreted.

Imagine without a rushing game and or ability to stop the run where we’d be without a QB like Dak.

Sure he isn’t worth 60 mil but he’s enough to keep a lesser team in most games .

We only had a chance for a last gasp effort yesterday cause of Dak.

At some point in the off-season there was a comment from either Jerruh or Stephen that Dallas would "have to do more with less", and this is what that looks like. Unfortunately it looks like they are more likely to do less with less

I think Daks new contract has made him even more complacent.
There doesn’t seem to be any sense of urgency and focus, until late in the game when it’s too late.
.
They didn’t play relaxed the last 8 minutes against Baltimore. They played out of desperation and focused on scoring. They need more of that in the first 50 minutes of the game.

but that's it. the other teams run, the past 3 home games the opposition has scored in 22 of 27 positions (saw that in another thread). and you are behind. we can't run the ball, have a balance offense, so we have to throw and become one dimentional. that's easy to defend and you have to be perfect to win just passing. Dak is not elite. he is not mahomes and I don't think even mahomes could win effectively just throwing all the time.

Jerry is in a contrarian battle with the fans. He has people read these forums and report back to him on what the consensus is. He then goes 180 degrees in the opposite direction because he just has to prove he's right all this time after having fired Jimmy and derailing what would have been the greatest dynasty ever.

So, we as fans, began talking about our consistent problem at RB. He then sticks it to us by not even considering Henry to instead sign Zeke. I'm almost positive that he singed Zeke for nothing more than a middle finger to the fans.

I don't expect many turnovers when a team can runt he ball on you like that. Where I'm really starting to think Zimmer should feel some heat is in not getting this corrected. Last week I gave him a lot of grace because what are you supposed to do when your front is getting blown off the ball every time? This week though I'm seeing so many errors that just didnt get fixed. I'm actually worried about how these LBs are being coached as their reads are simply awful and something Baltimore took clear advantage of from the start yesterday....

1st play of the game yesterday for Baltimores offense was a little option play for Jackson. First off it was an absolute beautiful play design, but this was all on the LBs here. 11 personnel with the Y off the LOS....typically when you get this look your middle backer will just follow the Y and he will take you right to the football. All the LBs get caught chasing the dive, plus Donovan Wilson bites on the action. The LT crashes down so Parsons does the right thing here and squeezes down to fill that gap, Jackson keeps it with the Y lead blocking from across the formation but no one follows him for the easiest first down you'll see.

I really dont know if this is just bad LB play at this point or if Zimmer has them doing unreliable reads. Last week when I watched Overshown he seemed to make multiple reads of just following the running back, which seemed really odd to me, and now this week I'm seeing more head scratchers. Maybe I'm just not smart enough to figure out what they are going for here, but regardless its not working when there seem to be some football 101 level fixes.

A one-word description would be “exposed”. You guys knew it last year, and a few teams caught on, but the playoff loss and two consecutive no-shows against the run has put the team on full blast. No shootouts vs. the Cowboys. Just run it down their throat, get a lead, and it can snowball.

Same with the offense. The Cowboys will window dress it, but the running game will NOT be remotely a threat. On the perimeter, just get a man over the top to help on CD and the other legit target to handle is Ferguson. Lamb needs a running mate.

Too much stress on the draft. When you opt to be a non-participant in free agency, too much weighs on hitting on draft selections and 2023 was a stinker. Repercussions of that class will linger for a couple years due to relying on them so heavily.

You’ll hate it, but unless the team makes a concerted effort to address the defensive interior, they may want to at least put out feelers for what they could get for Parsons. His efforts will be in vain, and he’ll just eventually free-lance out of position, unless others adjacent to him can produce. Also, it should be evident the team is not just one player away from getting over the top, so you’ll need more quality personnel instead of recycled JAGs.

In order of importance. Ownership/GM needs to have a come to Jesus moment and understand where the team REALLY is in regard to personnel. Stop farting around with the interior of that defensive line and get real players – this may require money. They need to understand that the pendulum is swaying toward the running game (get a legit RB) as offenses are now effectively countering nickel and dime packages. It’s as if all the devaluing of the RB discussion prompted a few of smart OC’s to say, “hold my beer”. How scary is it if Lamb goes down? Get a #2 WR.

Still think the LB position warrants evaluating and why is Mike Solari still coaching for one, and why have the Cowboys decided he should be employed by them?

You still have to be able to Run the ball, so you are not forced to become one dimensional. You also need to Run the ball to keep the opposing offense off the field and keep them from racking up so many points. But, if your defense sucks like ours, good luck.
