Packers

As I said anything can happen in a single elimination game. Packers played very loose, with nothing to lose, where the Cowboys played tight as all the pressure to win got to them. All three phases had terrible days and what is worse, the coaching staff was outcoached. Playing so much zone against a team that struggles against press, man coverage? Running the football on first down when they play 5 down lineman? Sam Williams still on punt returns after he makes penalties every week?

What went wrong throughout the season?

You cannot win in this league if you are unable to run the football and stop the run, especially come playoff time. I have said it so many times this season, teams play shell coverage to take away the Cowboys chunk passing plays, teams dare the Cowboys to run the football against light boxes and they just cannot do it! Is it the personnel, blocking scheme, play-calling? This shouldn't be an issue with all the resources up front. As for the run defense, losing Lve/Overshown hurt, but Quinn decided to go with undersized, hybrid players and continue to play Parsons at DE when teams run right at him with tremendous success. These two areas need to be fixed or they will continue to have inconsistent success. Has this team really gotten better from prior seasons as the same issues remain their weaknesses?

Coaching Staff

MM was hired to able to get this team in a deep playoff run. Yes, he has shown to be a far better HC then Jason Garrett, but the team's success is marginally better. He has gotten this team into the playoffs three straight years, is able to do a better job overcoming injuries, but this team still remains one of the worst in committing penalties, MM has been awful in end of game situations.

What this franchise needs to do in my opinion?

They need to change the culture, these players are treated like rock stars, without any accountability. The front office also needs to change their philosophy, they have to start using free agency/trading market more then just relying on a unproven draft class. My thought process earlier on in the season was to target one of those modern, offensive coaches from a coaching tree either from the 49ers or Rams, but they need more then that? 3 Candidates all fit the bill what this team needs: Bellichek, Vrabel or Harbaugh.

All three coaches have a track record of being discipled HC's, who have won with strong running games and stout defenses. They will know how to fix the trenches. Before anyone says that Jerry will never hire or these men will never coach here, Parcells did in the past and changed this franchise for the better.

A coaching change is needed but we really need to move on from Jerry and Stephen. The Cowboys are a television show. You are not winning anything unless you get off the talk show circuit. I know they make to much money and that is really what the Cowboys are about. I am as disappointed as I have ever been with the Cowboys. We have great building blocks but refuse to bring in trench players through free agency that would get us over the top.

Go back and look at the schedule. A lot of those home beat downs were against tomato cans. Some of the worst pass defenses in the league. While it felt good at the time, it lead a lot of delusions.

I'm so angry, I'm not going to read all that but I bet it's probably the way most of us feel and before the game I didn't think I'd say this but this is a perfect opportunity for Jerry to make a change but if he makes a change it has to be everyone I wanna see a clean cut Mike McCarthy's gone Dan Quinn and the whole staff gone I don't want anybody piercing together pieces of the old staff because if he's gonna do that then I need to say keep Mike McCarthy let Dan Quinn walk and then find a defensive coordinator that can use our pieces in a better way...

I was one of the guys saying that no matter if they win or lose this wild card game they should have an opportunity to come back and finish what they started unless they laid a giant egg and didn't even make an effort and the game plan sucked and we weren't even in the game and that's what happened and now I'm on everyone else's side it is time to move on..

We can't have a Jason Garrett incident where he stays too long and my other addition to this is we need to keep Prescott however not under a new contract I know it's a big cap hit but I'm letting the guy stay one more year that way we actually have a quarterback for the new coach and then he can pick the next quarterback I know it'll be a lame duck year for Prescott but we need to keep Prescott for next season or I should say this season for 2024 regular season we at least need to keep the quarterback and some pieces we just need a new head coach who picks a new defensive coordinator an offensive coordinator that could fit the pieces that are here now...

Just an opportunity has fell in our lap like I bet you said up there with a lot of really good candidates available like Bill Belichick and Harbaugh and some others so if you're gonna make a move this would be the year to make the move and before other teams take these people just cut them now don't take too long maybe take 48 hours have some interviews and go get a couple of these guys on your list up there because what if you can get both Belichick and Vrabel or any of them I mean not just head coach but I would like a dominating defensive coordinator as well...

how can the offense function when they're constantly down in games literally even if they would have raided the ship you know like they're down 7 nothing already then they punt then they're down 14 nothing and then yes the pick six sucked but that second interception let's all agree that Brandon cooks was mugged knocked out of the way to get that interception that's not on Prescott that's just one of those things the referees missed it it happens but in the second-half they could have got some traction had the defense not giving up 21 straight points they literally stopped no one as usual all year long in the biggest games go look at all the games against Arizona the 49ers Buffalo and others but technically look at the Seattle game that we won at home barely that's what with this game would have took a perfect game from the offense and the quarterback and that's ridiculous expectations to expect them to have to score 40 to win a game especially in the playoffs Dan Quinn is overrated and it's time for him to go I'm glad he's got offers hell his offers might get pulled now but this defense all year long his expectations were that it was gonna be championship defense and it was not this looks like rod marinelli's defense this looks like hell at times it looks like Mike Nolan's defense anybody who wants to put their head under the ground and ignore the fact that this blame is a team loss but most of the losses this year 70% were on the defense you can't play a game or even catch up in a high score game if the defense doesn't make stops they just didn't it's been going on all year giving up the the 1st Dr. of the year they give up points and 70% of the games and they've also in half the games giving up a score in the first drive of the second-half if they are not getting turnovers they can't play normal defense they don't have much resistance outside of getting some sacks or some turnovers outside of that they're not a good defense at all....

I cant add to much to the head coaching conversation other than the alternatives already being discussed like Belicheck or Harbaugh.
Same goes for the QB discussion. I mean, if ever there was a year to draft one there seems to be a decent amount of potential with several names there.

Ultimately though, the triangle to NFL success is GM, HC and QB.
And the GM ain't going no where.

Running it back with the same HC and QB is just spinning our wheels as both have reached their performance ceilings here already.

I can't offer the exact specific change needed to alter the course of this team.
But major change is needed.
This year 28 of this same outcome begs for a new direction.

No doubt this team was overrated, especially their defense. The way to fix this team is inside the trenches and becoming more disciplined.

Said the same thing in another thread.........I like Harbaugh a little better. He will be Jimmy 2.0 IMO......love that he's a former QB with a defensive coor mentality.
He had tremendous success quickly with SFO that had an elite rushing attack with a strong defense. My choice would be Bellicheck cause he would also run our defense.

The only reason I am behind the hiring of Bill. Although I think Josh McDaniels would do well with Dak.

Bill remains the best DC in the business. The worry is more on the other side of the football with him, but you know he will bring in his great OL coach and SB experienced assistants. Bill has always valued a strong rushing attack and was the inventor of the hybrid defense, who employs size at the linebacker and defensive line positions.

I agree with this sentiment and we probably haven't had fully the right culture since Parcells was here who put the team on the right trajectory, but lost it with Phillips and Garrett. I do think McCarthy is far better than the prior guys in building culture, but maybe not the xs and os details guy thats going to fully hold players accountable.

You know what's ironic what if Quinn play themselves out of another job how do we know he's leaving what if his offers are all now rescinded lol? Does Jerry have the nut sack to just cut them all??

Like I said before the game I was saying there's probably 95% chance there's no way I'm making a coaching change if they lose but that small percentage had a caveat attached to it that if they didn't show up prepared and if they looked clueless and they guess lay an egg then I'm gonna have to go with that 5% and it's time to go...

But does Jerry feel the same way?

Who do you think his choice of offensive coordinators would be I mean I don't like the ones he had over in New England? I mean who is he bringing with him I I don't worry about Bill Belichick the head coach who can bring in a defensive coordinator that shares his philosophy but who is gonna be his offensive coordinator and what kind of offense is he gonna run?

Exactly why I favor him a bit as well he will change the culture. I see a little of Jimmy and Parcell's mentality in him. I don't think he would have much trouble finding a top DC. Also as a former QB, I'm lending heavily on his input regarding the future of Dak and the QB position.

Can Bill coach against these young boy geniuses. Matt Lafluer and Berry put MM and Quinn in clown suits.
