Thread Locking?

It seems that certain users always have a part in getting a thread closed.
Instead of closing a thread would the MODS be able to delete all the bad post and block certain users from being able to click on particular threads? There were so many zingers that didn't get to be shared in the Green Lantern thread because 2 or 3 people ruined it for all.

That would be a lot more work than just locking the thread and the mods already have a ton of work as it is.
