Caddies should shut up. Just like kickers and punters. I don't care if this guy has a good point or not. I don't want to hear from caddies just like I didn't want to hear Vanderjagt's opinions about Peyton Manning.

Steve Williams has always been an ******. They were a perfect player-caddy match.

Williams is a bit of a jerk. Woods put a lot of money in his pocket that was uncalled for. Williams though has a tendency to open his mouth a lot. He had made some insulting remarks about Mickleson as well.

Woods has consistently taken the high road with this crap with Williams. Good for him.

There's an old saying in golf. Caddies are supposed to:

- show up
- shut up

and

- keep up

I agree but seriously. How low is the road you have to take to be looking up at Tiger Woods?!? :D

I see multiple references of caddies being kickers.

I don't think that really fits.

Kickers can win the game for you by making the game winning play.

Caddies don't put in for eagle on the final hole of a match that is even or in overtime.

Caddies would be more like the equipment manager.:D

I agree, but if he hadn't on this one I would have applauded him for not. Racism is simply out of bounds.

There is a lot more to being a caddie than handing a club and carrying a bag.
Steve Williams is a top caddie who has worked for Ian Baker-Finch, Greg Norman, Ray Floyd and now Adam Scott and I think he has been a big help in turning thing around for Scott. Does not mean Williams is not a jerk he is but he is good at what he does.

As for Tiger he did the right thing in how he handled this nothing good would have come from getting into a war or words with Williams. Hopefully Tiger can get his game turned around and let his play do the talking

it's no use Dooms, people watch Caddyshack and think they know what a professional caddy does.

Eldrick shouldn't have been upset, he never referred to himself as black, he says he is what Cablanasian or something stupid like that?

There's not a lot to being a caddy, even on Tour. A very good friend of mine currently caddies for a Tour player.

The yardage books for the course are made by a former caddy. They look like war battle plane. Sometimes if there's a hole with a high elevation, they may take a rangefinder with the slope and shoot it in the practice round to figure out what it's playing like.

What they'll also do is go out on the course beforehand and be told the spots where they usually put the flag. Then the caddy will go out on the course, with other caddies, roll the ball to those positions and get an idea of how the putt rolls from different spots. But even the experienced caddies don't always do this because they have already charted the green years ago.

Mostly, the veteran caddies are very good at reading greens. Those guys always find work. Plenty of Tour players will have a caddy for a few months and then dump him, just because they like to change things up every couple of months.

So...it's the guys who can read greens that become veterans. There's no sense in some mid-level player to hire a caddy who doesn't read greens well. So if they are looking for a new caddy, they usually get referred to the best green readers out there.

That's what Steve Williams is known for, reading greens.
