Please don't sit here and tell us that is isn't an issue for Apple users when the CEO is out apologizing w/ his heart on his sleeve.

What a crazy decision. :D With Jobs now gone, you can bet there will be more to come.

Apple CEO Tim Cook says the company is "extremely sorry" for the frustration that its maps application has caused and it's doing everything it can to make it better.

Cook said in a letter posted online Friday that Apple "fell short" in its commitment to make the best possible products for its customers.

'Try alternatives ... like Bing, MapQuest and Waze.'
- Apple CEO Tim Cook

He recommends that people try alternatives by downloading competing map apps from the App Store while Apple works on its own maps products.

Seems a little overblown. I haven't had any issues with the new maps app.

Yeah, this never would have happened under Steve Jobs...

Today, Tim Cook made his first major apology as the CEO of Apple. It probably won't be his last. Despite the obvious knee-jerk reaction regarding the Maps debacle, it's actually interesting that this particular scenario is yet another example of humans having extraordinarily short-term memories. It's the same reason that whatever game we most recently saw is the "best or worst ever." (Packers v. Seahawks 09.24.2012, I'm looking at you.) In truth, Apple has a fairly solid history of ingesting pride in the iPhone era, when it surged headfirst into the realm of serving consumers in a way that it never had before. And moreover, hearing Cook apologize isn't something that should be mocked or berated; one can only hope that more companies of all shapes and sizes develop a policy of listening and reacting. Allow me to explain.

Get ready for another one that addresses the quality control in regards to the iPhone 5.

I could give two squirts about the maps and if someone can't find a place without looking at their phones they might need to do a reboot on their life OS. :laugh1:

However the idea of having to buy multiple new cords or adapters for the old ones still irks me.

Follow the link and read the article and you will see that was the exact point I was trying to make.

I see the sarcasm in your post now. Sorry, wasn't apparent to me earlier. I was actually going to say something about how the article you linked to proved the opposite so that shows you just how dense I am.

No worries, I should've pointed out I was responding to the OP when I posted it.

Wow, I'm surprised they'd admit it so quickly. Apple of old would deny until the evidence was insurmountable.

The native maps app really is crap though. Outside of the change to vector based maps, I see zero improvements.

Eh, not really. But they have done the "it doesn't matter" and them fix it while no one was looking.

They've done the apologies before, even with iOS bugs in particular. They always fix their mistakes though and no one ever seems to care they happened in the first place.

You don't see adding turn by turn navigation as an improvement?
