Watching the Cardinals play Vikings.

Vikings have the ball around the opponents 30 yard line, 2 minute warning / timeout.

Next play, the Cardinals sack Dalton around the 40 with about 10 seconds run off the clock.

The cardinals have 3 time outs and didn't stop the clock, Vikings made the long field goal with like 1:14 left.

I'm just like scratching my head on why if the Cardinals have 3 time outs, they sack the QB making it a 50 plus yard field goal, why they didn't take the time out to save time on the clock?

Low and behold, the cardinals get down to the vikings 5 yard line and have to stop the clock with like 3 seconds left and no timeouts.

I get the fact that you burn a timeout on the last field goal by the vikings that only leaves you with 2 left, but am I wrong in thinking be better off having 2 left with 1:50 on the clock instead of 3 with 1:10 on the clock getting ready to receive a kickoff?

Time Management is a weakness of MANY HCs in college and the pros

I agree with you. I'll take the 1:50 with 2 timeouts any day. Because you might have plays that go out of bounds. Keeping the extra time seems more important to me. But others may have a different opinion.

Thing that got me was the broadcast announcers didn't even say anything about it.

I just remember them having 3 timeouts, 3rd down right after the 2 minute warning, thinking to myself to call a timeout right after that play. Still have two timeouts and still almost two minutes.

So, although we know time management may not be MM's forte, apparently it's a lot of other teams as well.

I dont understand why coaches "save" a timeout when the an oppenent with a 1 score lead is running the clock late in the game. If you dont use your 3rd T.O. and "save" it the opponent will run 40s off the clock. You cant save any more time than 40s by keeping the TO for when you are on offense. Even if you end up in a situation where the clock is running after a play, when you are on offense, you can usually get the next play off in under 40s, so you never get the full 40s back by "saving" a TO for these situations.
