So I did some nerd work and compiled the times that we have allowed a 90.0 passer rating and our record vs those teams. Compared to the times the top defenses have allowed 90.0 passer rating.

So apparently we've allowed a 90.0 passer rating 5 times and we're 1-4 in those games. Here's how it stacks up compared to the rest of the NFL:

I guess the verdict is everyone's chances to win are better when we hold the QB down. Except maybe the Ravens. So I guess Dan Quinn needs to win the matchup against Jordan Love. Cowboys defense mostly makes QBs look bad, but there are times when a QB looks pretty good against us.... but it looks like every team has those too.

I think Green Bay has had a real soft schedule tho. Besides Mahomes, the hardest QB they had to face was Russell Wilson, Justin Herbert, and Jared Goff. Let's see if we can run on them. Their run defense is bottom 5 in the league.

Cowboys

Over 90.0 5 times (1-4)

Jalen Hurts
Josh Dobbs
Brock Purdy
Tua Tagovailoa
Geno Smith

Ravens

Over 90.0 3 times (2-1)

Matthew Stafford
Mason Rudolph

Chiefs

Over 90.0 6 times (3-3)

Jared Goff
Zack Wilson
Kirk Cousins
Russell Wilson
Aidan O'Connoll
Jordan Love

Bills

Over 90.0 7 times (2-5)

Tua Tagovailoa
Trevor Lawrence
Mac Jones
Baker Mayfield
Joe Burrow
Russell Wilson
Jalen Hurts

Browns

Over 90.0 5 times (1-4)

Lamar Jackson
Gardner Minshew
Russell Wilson
Matthew Stafford
Jake Browning

49ers

Over 90.0 6 times (2-4)

Josh Dobbs
Kirk Cousins
Joe Burrow
Drew Lock
Lamar Jackson
Carson Wentz

The rich are never happy.

C'mon Cowboy fans, nows the time to pull together not start looking for something to gripe about or calling for tearing the thing down.

Defensively, the Cowboys will run into a first-year starter in Jordan Love that has exceeded expectations by all accounts by sitting seventh in passing yards and second in passing touchdowns at season's end. His weapons? How about the top six leading receivers for the Packers all being rookies or second-year players?

One critical point that will be key for the Cowboys defense is to get to Jordan Love. Averaging just 1.8 sacks allowed per game in 2023, the Packers sit in the top three of the NFL in terms of keeping their quarterback clean, and it has only improved as the season has gone on with only two sacks allowed in their final three games.

Thanks for the research, @Yobwocs. I think some of the in-game analysis has hit it on the nose regarding our defense: they are built to be a fast, opportunistic unit that gets after a team and forces turnovers when playing from ahead. They'll allow teams to move down the field but are good at holding strong in the red zone.

I haven't seen much put on film this year to suggest that they can dominate a team and protect our offense in situations where the offense struggles.

here's the thing everybody who thinks Dan Quinn has built an elite defense is far from it they're an elite opportunistic defense that creates turnovers and at times a lot of pressure but they're also vulnerable most of our losses you can point to the defense even the Seattle game the defense made that game almost a loss I mean our offense may not be perfect but when you hand them a lead like twice last year they blew those back-to-back leads in Jacksonville and Green Bay and Miami game you give him elite I don't care if it's one point with four minutes left this defense is not elite it it doesn't shut down the run it often gives up scores on the first drives of both the game and the second-half they get walked down the field too much and again we all know they have a problem stopping the run with teams who are willing to commit to it..

So even with those geeky numbers up there I wouldn't worry much about the quarterback as I would the run game because if they want to commit to it that's the thing how many teams are willing to be patient and just run the ball like Buffalo did on us I mean Josh Allen only had what 97 yards passing and we weren't even in that game mostly because of the defense this defense in my opinion wow Ben good to great at times it is not elite and it has problems and that's why that thread that asked me which one are you the most worried about as a group... Hands down it's the defense too many times they made things way too easy for the opposition...

then the question is to your part of this as they haven't faced a lot of great quarterbacks and their run game is suspect as far as stopping the run will Mike McCarthy commit to the run and not get away from it there are games where if he just stayed with the run longer we had a better chance of winning or making the game easier everyone calls it clock management but I'm not worried about the end of halves or the end of game I'm talking about all game long sometimes you just gotta stick to the run...

Especially in a playoff game you got to be willing to accept the four yards per carrier under or even worse and just keep hammering at it until it breaks then that play action pass stuff will work that's why I'm worried about Green Bay because if they're willing to do it against our defense who is susceptible to long drives and chunk yards from the run game and then giving up that big pass...

Our one victory was when the other team couldn't stop our offense. So if we do give up a 90.0 rating Sunday, the offense has to step up and carry the load. Against Seattle, the defense eventually came up with big stops, but without a good offensive effort, that wouldn't have mattered.

Russell Wilson had a 90+ passer rating against three top defenses and Dak had none??? Or am I misunderstanding?

Great thread

4 of those 5 games were on the road, where Dallas has a passer rating differential of +0.7 for the year (and that is massively helped by WK18).

At home, Dallas is +46.4

Yup that he did...... and he won all 3 games. But Broncos are built to play well against great teams and struggle against the mediocre. But you gotta beat the mediocre too.

Dak had well below 90.0 rating against the 2 that he played. But good news is that we're definitely not playing any of those teams until the championship game. And maybe not even that if the Rams can upset the Niners.

And TheMarathonContinues is also right. Mahomes is 1-4 against playoffs teams while Dak is 3-4.
