Ohioans ticketed for parking in own driveways

Tue Jun 16, 6:52 am ET

TOLEDO, Ohio – Residents of Toledo, Ohio, are complaining that they received $25 tickets for parking their vehicles in their own driveways.

Mayor Carty Finkbeiner (FINK'-by-ner) says he stands by the citations handed out last week by the Division of Streets, Bridges and Harbor. He says the tickets were issued under a city law against parking on unpaved surfaces, including gravel driveways.

During a news conference Monday, Finkbeiner ignored a reporter's question of whether the crackdown and fines were related to the city's budget crisis.

The three-term mayor faces a recall vote in November. Critics have claimed he's wasted city money.

City Councilman D. Michael Collins calls the ticketing "Mickey Mouse nonsense." He has told residents he'll try to have the citations rescinded.

I can see why this has no responses.
The stupidity leaves one speechless...

in other news its still in the city by-laws of york (north of england) that its legal to shoot a scotsman within the town walls, but only with a bow and arrow.
i'm all for rediculous by-laws but why does anybody think they can actually enforce them? this is just stupidity, can you imagine waking up in the morning and going to leave for work only to find you got a ticket in your own drive?

Yeah, I can't remember which show it was. Maybe Ripleys Believe It Or Not.

Anyway there was a section about ridiculous laws. Some of them included not being able to chew gum in public or something and not being able to wear pants on a tuesday. Some weird crap.

The enforcement of this law is as ridiculous as it gets. I'm sure theres a reason for not parking on unpaved surfaces some way or another but to do it to people's driveway is nuts.

OKay lets clear it up for ya. Shooting a Scotsman in Town walls, well thats just funny and probably outdated, still fun tho.

Second, and this you wouldnt understand not being American, its a law that gives the town MONEY. Money is god here, all others are 6th down the list. Its very plain why the mayor did it, its either for his defense to not get recalled, OR money to get out of the states. Either way, everyone knows why he did it, they just wont ever elect the right person.

yes i realise the bow and arrow thing is just something that has never been removed since long before the union my point was that its a rediculous law much like a law that allows a city to take money from people for parking in their own drive. obviously they're enforcing it as a loophole to try and exploit as much money as they can but these people are elected officials who at one point or another will be up for re-election so what i was saying was how do they think they will be able to enforce these laws and survive. not sure what me not being american has to do with anything

Maybe he didn't get the memo that money rules the world...not just America. :)

I'll check that off the list of potential towns to move to after I get my degree.

Well, this is what happens when you elect a guy with the word Fink in his name. :D
