Tom Rafferty RIP

Sorry to hear of Tom Rafferty passing away.He gave the Dallas Cowboys all of his ability and heart for the 14 Years he played for the Team. When he moved from Offensive Guard to Center in 1981 the Cowboys Offensive Line benefited tremendously from his Intelligence, Durability and Determination.

RIP "Ruff" and Your place in Dallas Cowboys History will never be forgotten.

R.I.P. Tom Rafferty.

Tom was part of the "Irish Connection", the nickname given to a very underrated but good offensive line that also included John Fitzgerald and Pat Donovan. All three were 4th round draft picks.

Offensive line coach Jim Myers, former Texas A&M HC, was one heck of a coach.

Others on that offensive line included Herbert Scott, a 13th round draft pick, and Jim Cooper, a 6th round pick. This was an offensive line that went to five NFC championship games and two Super Bowls.

All of my guys on the great teams of the late 60's through the early 80's are going away.
Four Irishmen and a Scot was the nickname of that OL.
Rafferty, Fitzgerald, Donovan, Cooper ... and Herb Scott

It's amazing Every time I read the names of these old time greats, it's always Pat Summerall's voice saying it.

Our heroes are leaving from a great era in Cowboys lore. I will praise and honor each of them when they go, just as l do while they're here. RIP Tom Rafferty.

Maybe pin a thread in the History Zone with a list of all the Cowboy greats that have gone on to the Final Super Bowl.

#64 Started out as a guard and ended up at Center for the rest of his career....played with Staubach. White and Aikman. Played in 3 SBs won one and 5 NFC championships. The bridge to those great teams is diminishing everyday....RIP.

At the time of his retirement, he ranked among the franchise's all-time leaders in seasons played, games played, consecutive games played and games started, I am surprised he is not in the Hall of Fame, I think he should have been in due to his longevity, rest in peace Mr. Rafferty
