signed a 1 year deal......

Patriots sign veteran WR Torry Holt

Mike Reiss from ESPNBoston is reporting that the Patriots have signed veteran WR Torry Holt. Holt is 33 years old and entering his 13th NFL season. He played 11 successful seasons with the Rams and last season with the Jaguars, where he snagged 51 receptions for 722 yards. Holt adds another veteran presence to the WR corps which has veterans Randy Moss, Wes Welker, and David Patten.

Can Holt still contribute? I think that he can, but don’t expect the production he had in his Rams days. If he can post similar numbers to what he did on a lesser offense with a lesser QB in Jacksonville, he will be a big help to the offense as it bides its time waiting for Wes Welker to recover from injury.

Holt is a good route runner, which should help him have a bigger impact than Joey Galloway did last season. Galloway relied mostly on his speed, and he didn’t fit what the Pats needed from the position. Holt is on a one-year deal, so there is very little risk with potential for a high reward in this signing.

This also provides the Pats will a little more flexibility during the draft as WR is not as urgent a need anymore. The Patriots do absolutely need to draft a young receiver, but they don’t necessarily need a Week One starter anymore. That doesn’t mean they won’t pick a Golden Tate, Arrelious Benn, or a Dez Bryant if he fits their draft board, but they don’t have to if a player at another position with a similar grade is available.

:laugh2:

Well you know that Belichick, he is a genius, going for it on 4th and 2 at your own 28 against Manning was an inspired decision.

Pats do things like this all the time, he may not even play a down.

He's lost a step but his hands are still top notch, even if one of his fingers is really ****ed up.
