Jalen Ramsey was recently traded for a 3rd round pick.

Fans want the Cowboys to trade a 2nd round pick for DeAndre Hopkins.

Ramsey
Age 28
Played 97.4% of games the past 2 seasons.
- 37 of 38 games.

Hopkins
Age 30 (31 in June)
Played 54% of games the past 2 seasons.
- 19 of 35 games.

Ramsey past 2 seasons:
1x 1st team ALL Pro
2x Pro Bowl

Hopkins past 2 seasons:
zero All Pro
zero Pro Bowls

Whenever we mention draft picks in trades we have to factor in the salary and cap hits that go with it.

But in this case, it does seem like apples and apples.
In fact, the older Hopkins has a worse cap hit this year than Ramsey, if I'm not mistaken

Good point

right cant use #1 draft assets and cap $$ for a #2 option. been saying that all week...OBJ say at 10mil base 2 yrs 20mil guaranteed but can earn up to 5mil more per season with playtime and production escalators.

Or get DJ chark, Landry or the like

either way use the draft capital saved not trading for a WR and draft a high WR.

It's funny, people clamor for Dallas to stop being conservative and go all in, but if they do, they are criticized.

I would rather trade a 3rd round pick instead of a 2nd. But if they do, I'm not going to bash them.

Just get the deal done and move forward.

Exactly.

People need to relax. Cowboys know what they are doing here, imo.

The Cards have to do something...they will have to come down.

It's been reported that Hopkins is willing to redo his contract(take less money) to lower his cap hit. If this is the case that is more than enough to get this deal done.

I doubt Ramsey would ever do this.

I believe Hopkins to be more about team and Ramsey more about me.

Not giving up a 2 or 3 rounder for anyone. We draft to well to give that up.

Could be wrong, but Hopkins may not have a full season left in him going forward
10 games in 2020
9 games in 2021

will be 31 all of 2023 season

I guess it depends on how much he's willing to come down on his price

Ramsey wanted a new contract. And was not taking less. Not sure if he got more though.

Apples to oranges comparison.

A better way to devalue a player would be to compare him to someone playing the same position.

I’m all in for sitting here next year reading the complaints about the Cowboys not making a WR move in the 2023 offseason.

I wouldn't give up a 2 for Hopkins. Especially not after getting a 5 for Cooper. Hopkins was better than Cooper but not 3 rounds better. At this stage in his career I would offer a 5 for Hopkins. And what about Ty Hilton? He was as good as Hopkins in his day. He can be re-signed without giving up any draft capital.

Really think it's either Beckham or a draft pick. Appears Cowboys do not want to give up any draft capital, unless it's a day 3 pick. They did talked with all the top receivers at the combine. If they go that route, they would still add some kind of veteran bridge type.

Be patient. DHop will get traded eventually. What is the value of a 31 year old wide out under two years of control anyway. DHop was only worth a second when he was in his prime. Now he has a failed drug test. Patience is the key here.

Yes, they'll sign a free agent WR but it might end up being a TY Hilton type.

I don't think any other team will offer OBJ a huge contract but I also don't know how how much Stephen Jones will offer him.

100%. Multiple factors make this not a straight comparison:

1. Top WRs make 28-30m$. This is way more than top corners, implying it’s a far more valuable position

2. WRs of Hopkins’ talent are often pro bowl caliber well into their 30’s. CB’s of Jalen’s talent may play well in their early 30’s but very rarely make it to 33, 34, 35 playing at a high level.

3. WR is an extremely valuable position even when they don’t play every snap. If Deandre Hopkins only plays ~70% of the snaps for you, you can still get 15-20 million of value out of him on the season. He’s a player who can put up 1100, 1200 yards in 14 games. If Jalen only plays 70% of the defensive snaps, he’s either been injured too much or was on the bench too much and isn’t even worth 10m$.

4. Deandre is a team player. Even when he had a falling out in Houston, we didn’t hear him crying on Twitter about it. Jalen is always yapping, we’ve heard him bad mouth Jacksonville, their ownership, and as soon as he leaves LAR, he’s probably going to talk about them too. Who wants to be the next team he throws under the bus?

5. Deandre was on pace for 1300+ yards last year if he wasn’t suspended. His “down” season is CeeDee Lamb’s career year, and most of that was with backup QBs… while Jalen was getting burned a bit more than usual. You can take it with a grain of salt, or that their career trajectories are going in different directions

IMO, Deandre is easily worth a 2 because his contract is good, and you can re-sign him to easier numbers for the cap. Jalen is making similar money, which makes his contract not as desirable because he’s a CB and not a game breaking WR. I don’t trust Jalen will be pro bowl caliber in 3 years. Deandre very well could be.
