There seems to be a consensus forming that this draft isn't all that good.. Especially for defenders...

What if we went the Amari Cooper route and traded for someone that's already established in this league.

Any ideas? Is this a bad idea?

It would be nice to get a guy still on his rookie deal who is playing at a high level on a team that wants draft picks.

For me I would love to find a 3 technique that can play in the backfield. I think that would have the biggest impact of us defensively.

The problem is those guys are NFL gold and I can't think of any that a team would part with.

What’s the size of the contract and how many years left on it.

The issue here would be, if on a rookie deal, and an established players, means their contract is coming up within a few years. Then you have the issue of resigning them at a much larger value.
Best do the research, draft a player you know you have for 4 years. It is not they are that one player away to compete for a championship with the over all needs on defenses.

My opinion, stay within the draft.

Agreed 100%
The best players on your team in terms of value and productivity are your draft picks you hit on.
Given the Dak situation this has never rung more true.

Both of these players I think we can get for one of our comp thirds but I don't think we can afford it if Dak is tagged:

Von Miller 2021

AGE: 32 Base Salary: $17,500,000

JJ Watt 2021

AGE: 32 Base Salary: $17,500,000

I'm still trying to do some research to determine how much money we have if: Dak is signed long-term alleviating some of the first year cap hit, he is traded or he is just flat out not signed back to the team where options like the above would be really interesting. I was kind of about that idea when I thought we had a chance at Zach Wilson or Fields but I want to re-sign Dak now like today so we can figure out how much money we can use in tier 1 of FA - this is never going to happen :muttley:we will be shopping in Tier 3 and re-sign Gerald McCoy.

I do not endorse this idea. I dont feel like they are close enough to really contending to do this. Besides guys like Miller and Watt have lengthy injury histories.
