I know it's unpopular, but I think drafting Travis Jones over a 2nd tier Edge makes a bigger impact on this defense. Instantly improves our run defense and affects the passing game by collapsing the pocket. We all saw how Chris Jones was a game wrecker in the KC Loss, he has similar potential.

Not saying we don't need another edge rusher, but we can still draft a development player and add a veteran via free agency. They still are a ton of quality pass rushers on the open market that would give more production then a 1st yr prospect at the position.

Either/or for me. I dont think we are weak at all on the edge when you factor in Parsons. To me drafting an edge is more about taking advantage of the amount of talent available than need. With our DT's, I think have enough talent to be adequate, but we are lacking a top tier guy there. A guy teams need to account for. All things being equal, I would draft the interior player. But is Jones THAT guy? I think you would really need to develop him as someone that can rush from a 1 or 3 gap for that to be the case. I think the ability is there. Thats why alot of people likes McNeil last year, and Jones is a better prospect

I have read that Jones can play some 3T as well and has some rush abilities, not just a two down player who is off the field against the pass.

The edge is fine except lack of depth you lose tank or anyone else your screwed

Jones would be a good NT that would require double teams and free up the LBs but Mathis, Winfrey, and Paschal would be more adept at collapsing the pocket. I think Winfrey is a 30 visit.

We did fine last year without Tank and Gregory. We started Parson and Armstrong at DE in 5 games and only gave up 20 points in one of them. Adding a DE in the draft is more about getting a long term player there, and not giving Basham 600 snaps like they did last year

It is not unpopular with me. Look at what Aaron Donald, Chris Jones and Jeffrey Simmons have done for their teams. Not saying Jones is THAT good but this team certainly isn't any better than average in a position I think is really important.

Give me Penning/Zion/Green in rd 1 and trade up in mid rd 2 to get Jones

I’d have no problem with a combo of edge in round 1 and Jones in round 2. It would finally be a long overdue investment in the defensive line.

And hope Williams and his off the field issues cause him to slide to the 3rd.

If you came out of the first three picks with an OG/OL, a DT and an edge player, I'd be very happy.

I really like Jones, but if there is a solid DE available in the 2nd with a similar grade I"m taking him every time.

I liked Alim McNeil better and he was taken in the 3rd...I'd def. consider using one of my extra later rounds picks to move up in the 3rd to nab Jones if he's there though.

Winfrey is more of a pure 3T, where Jones is more of that traditional 0/1.

No doubt more of a future starting need at RE. As I said, they could get by with adding a fa and drafting more of a developmental guy later on. Outside of the top 10, Edge players usually have steep learning curves and rarely make an instant impact.

Problem is, this team isn't going to throw much draft resources towards the defensive side, unless a prospect falls in their laps. We should see a defensive lineman and a linebacker, where the rest will be on offense. Look at the 30 visits, 2 OL picks, TE, WR and maybe RB. It might be either or for the defensive lineman pick.

I would love adding Williams, Jones and Chenal to this defense, but believe we are just going to get 1 piece this yr as this is going to be an offensive draft class. Question is, either an Edge or a DT. You prefer an Edge, my point is can find a good fa edge rusher and still draft another player later on in the draft. We need both.

I think if the team wanted a FA Edge they would've signed on though...I think they're counting on the draft.
