I don’t know much about Trey Lance so I looked into his career statistics.

He only played one year of college. He threw one pass in 2018 and only played one game in 2020 before the season got canceled due to COVID. So his only year was 2019.

His stats for 2019 are kind of insane. He led North Dakota State to 16-0 FCS championship, throwing for 2,800 yards at 67% completions, for 28 TDs and 0 INTs. He also rushed for 1,100 at 6.5 average for 14 TDs.

He’s very raw. The one season he played he was amazing but it’s not like he played Alabama. The physical traits are there. He has a cannon of an arm. He’s fast and powerful as a runner. But he still has a lot to learn as a passer. I know some think the trade was a waste and some want him playing the first week. But the trade was a low risk gamble and if you take the time to teach him the mental part of the game he could actually work out very well. If you think about it, if he can just develop into a sold backup QB for a 4th rnd pick, that’s a steal. But the pitential is there for even more. Only time will tell if he works out but the deal was a very smart, low risk deal

Right.....he is still raw since at SF he was injured and never really was able to get comfortable with Jimmy G and then Purdy getting PT.... i really don't expect him to be much of a factor for this season, just needs some practice and build himself up physically and mentally. Get some PT next preseason...then we can judge him fairly. But it is true in his only year 2019 at full time QB at NDSU they did win the Div 1 national championship. He does have the talent....needs the seasoning and opportunity in the NFL and we shall see how it goes. Cost the Cowboys only a 4th rounder.

My guess is the hate he is receiving here comes from mostly Dak supporters who feel threatened, just like they crap on Rush repeatedly.

Yes he had a good season, but keep in mind NDSU has a great football program. They have won 9 of the last 12 FCS championships and they had a rcord of 29-1 the two years prior to the year that Trey started. Point being, they had superior talent and coaching compared to the competition.

Yeah, we were undefeated and won the championship the year before he started, then the year after he got drafted we went 14-1 and won the championship. His statline was better than Easton Stick’s, but the teams functioned identically between the two

Lance is only a year older than Caleb Williams. They kid should’ve just transferred to a better school in 2020.

This is a trade for depth for the future. Maybe he can take over at some point but this season is an investment season. If we drafted Lance in the 4th round this season with his college career I believe most people would be very excited. I’m excited about it and I’m excited at the potential this can bring the team.

If ever a player needed time to develop. It's like 400 balls thrown. No one really knows what the kid has at this point.

If any luck it gives the Cowboys a chance to go from one franchise QB to another. Those years after Aikman were tough.
All the Cowboys are trying to do is prepper for the future...It's not a sure thing, as nothing is . But, at least the clay has some additives in it to mold.

Dak did better in college, but according to some here, Dak sucks.

The 49ers had your same train of thought and used three 1st round picks to draft Trey Lance 3rd overall. Two years later, they finally admitted they judged wrongly so bad, gave up and demoted Lance to 3rd string. Dak critics are ecstatic with picking up the 49ers colossal and costly mistake. lol

NDSU has won six straight games against FBS teams since 2010. The streak started with a 6-3 win at Kansas in 2010. They then beat Minnesota (37-24 in 2011), Colorado State (22-7 in 2012), Kansas State (24-21 in 2013), Iowa State (34-14 in 2014) and No. 13 Iowa (23-21 in 2016), all on the road.

Big deal, the only read I get out of your post is that it mirrors Dakota "WENTZ 2.0" Prescot's career to a "T". They both had a great first year and have done really nothing since then.

The competition in that league is not great.

QB3 should probably be the guy with the highest ceiling. Lance’s ceiling >> Grier’s ceiling.
