The brain is so powerful it controls a lot of things you take for granite.

Example: Cross your arms. Is it right over left or left over right? Funny thing is you have been doing it the same way since birth. Try it the other way! Feels funny right?

Example: You have navigated steps your whole life and never given it a second thought. A normal step has a depth of 10" and a riser or 7 1/2 to 8 inches tall.

I recently built some steps in the barn and because of space I had to give them a much bigger riser. 14 1/2 inches so the door would close. Holy Crap!! my wife and son both have fallen twice! It's built in to the brain.

Still not a believer. I double dog dare you to try and sneezy next time with your eyes open. Your brain won't let you. It's its way of saving your dumb arse from blowing your eyeballs out of their sockets!!

Sometimes your mind is like an auto correct feature on your phone and changes words.
Like granite vs granted.
I am sure we have all known the correct spelling of a word when we are typing it in only to go back and realize we put a different word in it's place that might sound like it or is spelled similar.

;):p:cool:

Reminds me of some of the word switches done during the Roy D Mercer skits. Like if he acts like he means to say his grandma could not see something because she had cadillacs in her eyes instead of cataracts.

Sam Harris claims we have no free will. Closely related to what you're talking about. Think about a memory. Any memory. The first thing that pops into your mind. Where did that come from?

You doubled the riser height? Might have been better off with a spiral staircase. ;)
