Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy has had to implement some new measures to stop edge rusher Micah Parsons from disrupting the offense's practice reps.

Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons may be the best defensive player in the sport. With that comes the acknowledgement that teams will do everything in their power to stop him. And at the end of this week, one of the teams "doing everything'' was his own Dallas offense. “Frankly, just to make him feel at home, we triple-teamed him today on the last play of game segment,” coach Mike McCarthy revealed. “It’s just something he’s going to be dealing with the rest of his career.”

Double-teams and chip blocks are just some of the ways Parsons gets dealt with, though he regularly makes a mockery of anyone in his path. After 26.5 sacks in his first two seasons, he added another in Dallas’ Week 1 victory over the New York Giants. The Cowboys’ pass rush repeatedly beat the Giants’ offensive line, putting the game in “change the channel” territory (for the "casuals'') before halftime. Parsons only had one of Dallas’ seven sacks on Sunday, but it’s clear that he is the motor that keeps the pass rush going. ... even with the multiple bodies thrown at him.

“I think he’s handled [extra blocking attention] very well,” McCarthy said. “I think he clearly understands the impact he makes for our defense, the opportunities he creates for others, he’s very much in tune with that.”Being the focal point of an opponent's game plans is bound to limit his individual statistics in some capacity. In a league where elite pass rushers are getting record-breaking contracts, it would be understandable for Parsons to feel frustrated with threats to his production.

the key when you have a player like Micah is to have other pass rushers to make teams pay for doubling him. As Parcells said, “if you have one pass rusher you have none” because you can double them and even if it doesn’t stop them (and it won’t totally stop Micah) you can at least limit them.

Week 1 we had those other pass rushers make the Giants pay. Let’s see if that continues. we know we have some edge guys that can get to the QB and Sam Williams in particular (at least IMO). The key to us destroying QBs all year may be some pressure up the middle. If Osa continues to develop and get that pass rush up the middle we should see tons of sacks and turnovers all year. It’s pretty exciting watching our defense right now when we get teams into 2nd and 3rd and long. IF we can stop the run on early downs, look out NFL

If Micah is truly the generational type player that so many claim him to be, then he needs to be just as impactful against the run as he is against the pass.

The "best defensive player in the league" cannot be one dimensional.

Micah needs to take his game and to another level and lead the Cowboys defense in proving that they can stop the running game cold. Only then will this defense be truly dominant.

That’s awesome they’re practicing triple teams. Get him more used to it and he can adjust and keep punishing QBs. I’m predicting 2 or maybe 3 sacks tomorrow. Definitely 2 for Micah. That’s Jets line is weaker than the Giants’ line.

He is entering Cowboys arena areas of Bob Lilly on opponent team focus now. He is next door to Lawrence Taylor and has to protect his health yet keep up his efficiency in focus.

He's getting to the top shelf leadership regions now...and needs to continue his growth as people stumble trying to protect from him.

Hmmm......I'm not sure I agree with this. Quite a few DPOY were "one dimensional", especially Edge rushers. For example, most sack leaders ( HOFers ) are known for their sacks, not tackles and like-wise DBs are known for their interceptions, not tackles.

He is multi dimensional. He can drop in coverage also. But he's a pass rushing lb. When you put him at lber he's great against the run. He isn't built to stop the run at de.

A good example of what you're saying is when the Broncos got Ware opposite Miller. But Parsons often beats double teams as well. Daniel Jones saw Parsons coming at him straight up the middle on multiple occasions. One for a sack, the other time Jones threw that pick from the sideline. That was Parsons that flushed him out.

I hope the Jets triple team him. Hell, put all 5 offensive linemen on him. Someone else will get there. Your offense has to be limited if you're going to triple team a player.

He fits the role as an outside linebacker just as did Demarcus Ware.

LT was like this in practice . Parcells often talked about it. Its what greats d0. They wanna win, even at practice. I have 0 issue whatsoever with Micah.

Imagine if we can make cap space for a big DL signing to help him out, QBs will be running all over the place for their life.

I love this post after no less then 2 days ago he beats the Jets RB to the edge and strips the ball right out his hands. Never change CZ...never change.

I was about to say the same but the post was right at gametime this Sunday, Plastic may have gotten the answer to his question soon after.
Good point. Still doesn't take away the fact that Parsons could probably play CB for this team and be the best one we have. Dude can do anything he wants on a football field.
