The kid who was punting the ball out of the roof in the 2nd Half and planting it inside the 20 a couple of times is former Cal kicker and rookie Tyler Fredrickson, who was signed as a KICKER. At Cal, he was their punter and kicker and even though there were only a couple, one with a bad snap that he did a nice job with... the added bonus of possibly getting back the extra kicker roster spot might put this kid in serious competition with McBriar.

McBriar has done a nice job, but last year was the 20th ranked punter in the NFL, so it's not like there isn't room for improvement. To McBriar's credit, he was tied for 4th most punts inside the 20, which may be a more significant stat than a couple yards on the average, but still... getting that roster spot back is enticing. He'll probably get some more looks going forward.

Wait....so this guy can punt AAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNDDDDDD do kickoffs? The wheels are turning....

yeah, I was thinking about this.. I thought it was interesting that Parcells had Fredrickson punting.. I don't think he would do that unless he was at least thinking the same thing we are.. I like McBriar and I do believe he will make this team, as he really is a good punter.. But not having to use an extra roster spot sure is tempting..

Right now, the kicking game has 5 roster spots dedicated to it...

Kicker
Kick-offer
Punter
Long Snapper
Return Man

None of those players are usable for anything other than their specialty. That really makes the roster tight on game days.

I dunno, we'll see. I like McBriar too. He's been consistent and seems to get a good one off when they need it the most.

I think you meant Willie Blade

here, we see him sharting.

I have a lot of goons, Kamala is just one of them, but I like him. Anybody that paints a crescent moon on their belly so they look like a human outhouse is OK with me.

Don't our return men double as HB/WR? I do agree I don't like having to use an extra roster spot on a backup kicker/Kickoff specalist but I guess thats the price you pay to have the most acurate kicker in the history of the NFL.

Skylar Green is the return man, and Parcells has indicated he will not have any other role with the team. Too little to be a DB or WR. Not a HB.

It's only the price you pay if you can't find a better price somewhere else.

Wrong.

Green is also getting plenty of reps in practice as a WR.

He used Megget as a 3rd down back.

Thanks for trying.

Seeing how McBriar is pretty inconsistent I wouldnt be against Frederickson getting a shot but 3 punts in preseason convince me do not.

I wasn't just talking about green for returns either. We have other people on the team who will share return responsibility such as Thompson and also I have heard of bill saying he will use Newman on punt returns once in a while.

Bill likes his players to be able to play in more than one place and you never know hopefully it doesnt happen but if our WR corps get low Green may be called upon for 3rd WR reps.

Yeah, well, let's count his receptions at the end of this season. Getting reps in practice does not = being on the field with the offense in the regular season.

Thanks for trying.

What is your deal anyway? Maybe you outta get up from your computer and walk around outside a little bit.

but 3 punts in preseason convince me do not.

There were only 2, and nobody said anything about being convinced of anything except that it's an interesting possibility.

ATD~ I love Frank. Used to go watch him down at the Sportatorium all the time, until he was murdered in Puerto Rico.
