Maybe Thiago Silva when Silva is over his injury. I would like to see him against Phil Davis if Davis wins at 117, or they could put him against the winner of Bader - Nog. either one of those are good fights for him.

It's time for Bones to start fighting top 205ers

Any rumors out there with who is next opponent will be?

I'd pay 60 bucks to see him fight Anderson Silva.

I fully expect Jones' next matchup to be with Couture, granted he doesn't get caught by a Toney haymaker.

The new 'Phenom' of the sport versus 'The Legend' of the sport. Marketing wise, it would be interesting.

Even more, the fight itself would be interesting. I know alot of folks would be quick to dismiss it, especially because of Couture's age. But one thing is for sure, Couture has never shown his age -- as of yet.

Couture has made a career of fighting out of the clinching, outmuscling even larger opponents and working his famous dirty boxing. While Jones is huge for a LHW, Couture has shown he can even throw around and push around some of the biggest HW's in this sport.

I am still amazed how Couture was able to work the clinch againt Lesnar, and able to even get Lesnar to his butt, nearly securing a takedown.

Jones will not be able to thow Couture around like a ragdoll like he has so many others.

Would love to see the fight happen.

I doubt it, I think he'll probably have to fight the winner of Little Nog/Bader.

For the record, I think Jones would smash Couture. Brock has no stand up and no imagination, Jones has both in spades.

Rogerio poises no threat to the style of fighter that Jones is. Brilz was even able to exploit the ground game that Rogerio has almost forgotten. Two submission victories in nearly 7 years, for a Noguiera brother?

Matyushenko provided more of a fight than Bader would be able too. Matyushenko is an extremely more talented wrestler and grappler than Bader, and Jones was able to toss him like a rag doll. Unless Bader could throw a wild overhand right, that he throws with reckless abandon, he has less chance against Jones than Rogerio would have in a fight.

Jones has not proven he has a legitimate standup game yet. Sure, he throws some funky strikes from anywhere (back kick, elbow strikes), but it does not mean he is talented there. As you said, imaginative yes, talented no.

Even more, can Jones throw around Couture who has made a living tossing around bigger HWs and putting them against a cage in his famous clinch?

Of the 3, by LARGE and FAR, Couture poises the biggest threat. Not to mention the mot interesting fight.

c'mon man, Randy isn't that same guy anymore that's why he's fighting James Toney. Jones would smash Randy simply because he's way too young and fast for grandpa Couture. Randy has been picking his fights for years anyways and I doubt he would take the fight if offered.

I'm not telling you who I would like to see him fight, just what I think is most likely.

I think you are being a bit optimistic about the stage of his career, Couture is at right now.

Jones has plenty of talent and creativity in whatever aspect of the fight game you want to discuss, he's not a boxer and he probably never will be, that doesn't mean he has no standup. His kicks are already top level and he picks his spot with punches, that doesn't mean he's not talented.

Who has Couture struggled with as of late to make you believe he has slowed down? Nog, who beat him standing up? That's certainly nothing to be ashamed of, as Nog has an insanely underrated standup game.

Couture asked for the Toney fight simply because Toney asked for him. Couture has long held the torch as the golden child and poster boy of MMA, so who better to prove to Toney that he doesn't belong?

But as Couture said for months, as soon as this fight is over with he wants a top contender at 205.

I think you need to go back and watch Jones' past fights and how he fared in the standup game.

Gusmao took advantage of Jones on the feet. The only real answer Jones had on the feet for Gusmao was that spinning back elbow.

Bonnar was able to get the best of Jones on their feet. Besides that insane back elbow (which was illegal) and his throws, not much else won Jones' that fight.

Jake O'Brien got the better of him on their feet. If not for O'Brien shooting in on Jones again, and again, and again, and again, and failing, he could have accomplished something in this fight.

Hamill, Vera and Matyushenko did not last long enough on the feet for anything to be noted of.

Granted Jones is training with Phil Nurse, but he has yet to prove a single thing in the standup game. At the same time, why does he need to? His takedowns, and GnP are absolutely vicious and all he has needed to get by until this point.
