JLew quietly had his best season as a pro last year.

“Like Anthony Brown, Jourdan Lewis didn't reach the dizzying highs of Trevon Diggs, but there's no debating that the 2021 season was his best since getting drafted 92nd overall back in 2017.

Lewis played 16 games and made 13 starts as the Cowboys' nickel back, setting career highs for interceptions (3) and pass breakups (11). ProFootballFocus graded Lewis at a decent 62.1 in coverage, with 54 receptions on 81 targets on the year.”

Wasn’t super flashy, but he took a step towards being a more consistent and decisive player. So far in 2022, he’s had to face two of the best slot WR’s in football. Week 1 versus Russell Gage (super underrated) and Tyler Boyd.

Lewis held Gage to 2 catches for 13 yards and Boyd to only 2 catches for 17 yards.

Many fell in love with Daron Bland’s preseason, and rightly so as he looks to be a steal, but took it too far when saying he should start over Lewis. At the end of the day Lewis and in a broader sense Brown, have become solid veteran starters at only 5M dollar price tags.

You need cheaper productive vets like this to fill out a starting lineup. I’m glad Lewis and Brown (Lewis for the purpose of this thread lol) have become extremely solid mid-round CB’s.

Got to chalk some of this up to better coaching \ scheme. Seemed like every other game was a crapshoot with coverage under the old regime. Now we only nitpick the few passes they gave up.

Man...the hate around here on Awuzie was so beyond irrational. Posters just hating the guy with conviction.

Dude was always in the perfect position and always seemed to have the ball miss his fingertip by less than half an inch.

Dont be surprised to see people hating on Lewis and Brown. And I would like to see Bland play too.

Rarely should anyone call for a rookie to start over a veteran, unless that vet is just bad and the rookie is outstanding on every snap. There's such a difference in the regular season and preseason that it's ridiculous. Not only does the game speed up even more, but the schemes become complex, so it's easier to get caught thinking too much. Corner is considered one of the toughest positions to play as a rookie.
