US Anti-Doping Agency to Seek Lifetime Bans Against Montgomery, Collins

The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency plans to seek lifetime bans against 100-meter world record holder Tim Montgomery and women's 200-meter world indoor champion Michelle Collins for alleged drug violations.
Both sprinters were informed by letter on Wednesday. Montgomery and Collins are among four sprinters who received USADA letters earlier this month telling them they were being investigated for possible drug use. USADA has built its case with evidence from the federal probe of the Bay Area Laboratory Cooperative.
Collins' lawyer, Brian Getz, says the evidence against Collins is thin and that she will resist the attempted ban. Neither runner has ever failed a doping test. Montgomery and Collins now have 10 days to decide whether to accept punishment, or appeal to a U.S arbitration panel or the Swiss-based Court of Arbitration for Sport. Under USADA rules, athletes can continue to compete until their cases are decided.
