I watched a game go into OT last night. I thought the rules were pretty good. Definitely moved things along faster than playing a 10 minute quarter.

Each team gets 3 tries from the 2 yard line and they alternate each play. The team that wins the toss can decide if they want to start on offense or defense for the first play. Best of 3. In last nights scenario. Pittsburgh scored on the first 2 tries and Carolina missed both, game over no need to go to the 3rd play. IF they both score 3 times it goes to a sudden death. 1 play/1 play til someone misses.

I actually liked it better than the NFL rule and it would do away with ties.

It was a playoff game, so these rules might not stop ties in the regular season unless the rules specifically call for no ties in any games.

I don't know what the rules specifically state about the sudden death after three tries in regular season games.

On a side note - it was a great game. Don't just be an NFL only snob. There was good football this year from both the XFL and USFL.
