Hello All,

This is for mostly Texans, but for those who live outside of the state too. I'm looking for a good spot to vacation in January. Considering Utah, Colorado, but have already been to NM and Colorado... would consider Colorado again.

Requirements are mountains and ski resort nearby, but really looking for a cool region to visit too.

You have Mount Rainier in Washington right outside Seattle

Jackson Hole Wyoming

Wyoming is gawds country is you ask me - I spent many a week hiking thru the Big Horn Moutains just west of Sheridan - in the wilderness fly fishing

I love it up there but dam it is cold up there

been to Jackson when in high school - the Teton's are something you will never forget

I went to College in Rapid City So Dakota - just not sure there is any ski resort in that area - at least when I was up there most of the tourist things are closed during winter - but thats when an where I feel in love with the mountains

one of three the places I on retiring are

Casper Wyo
west and or south of Denver
Sante Fe

it just been years since I been able to make it out there

Park City, Utah. Talk about a stunning place. Lots of good places to eat. Good skiing. People are downright friendly there.

Tahoe area has pretty much everything you could ask for.

Park City is amazing.

Whistler Blackcomb in British Colombia is arguably the best ski area in the world...although I've never been, I know of many people who have, and I can say with a great deal of confidence that few would be disappointed here.

Telluride is amazing...historically and currently. Only Jackson Hole compares terrain-wise in the US. I've driven there from Dallas. Say hi to my uncle for me.

Lots of areas in Washington and Oregon.

Upstate New York and New England are beautiful in the Winter as well. I'm getting married in Vermont (to a woman) in March.....perfect excuse for a snowboard trip. :D

Check out fishing regulations in some of these areas...most, if not all, of these places offer some terrific fly fishing areas.

...the mother of all vacations of this type is, of course, Alaska. One of these days.

When I began thinking about this, Utah was number one on my list. I will research Park City. Ever been to any place else in Utah?

Great suggestions. I will look into all of them.... Wife already vetoed Alaska.

Your question assumes there are vacation spots IN Texas. :laugh2:

Well, you know, there are... I guess. But peeing on the Alamo gets old after a few times.

(just kidding)

Seriously, Texas has to be one of the worst spots for a vacation unless you're here for the Cowboys or to look at schools or something.

Myrtle Beach, SC. Beaches are always so clean and tons of great places to eat.
