In yet another sign of the New York Jets' discontent with former first-round draft pick Vernon Gholston, the team restructured his contract.

According to ESPN, Gholston's 2010 base salary has been lowered from his original $1.9 million scheduled compensation.

The team is also moving Gholston, whose deal now includes incentives, to defensive end now that Jason Taylor is under contract.

Drafted sixth overall two years ago out of Ohio State and signed to a five-year deal with $21 million guaranteed, Gholston has never registered a sack.

My first post.

I recall when the Jet's took Vern, I laughed my butt off. When will teams stop using high round picks on combine workout warriors who didn't produce all that much in college?

BTW, that player this year is Taylor Mays, who (Thank the Lord) the Cowboys passed on and now the 49er's (Bwahahahaha!) will regret taking with a high 2nd.

The guy's a stiff who can't turn and so, can't cover. A very bad thing for a DB, even a "box" safety. He should have been dominant in college consdiering his size and straight ahead speed, yet he didn't really make many plays.

The only hope for Mays as a real player is that they move him to WLB and Singletary lights a fire under the dude, which is possible I guess, but a lot to do for a guy taken in the top half of the 2nd.

That is true but this story has a twist. ESPN is reporting that it was Gholston who approached the team expressing his disappointment in his play thus far and asked for the team to restructure his deal.
