this has been one of the best seasons for vikings and that's saying something. we had a TON of major developments last week and the door is wide open to all sorts of directions tonight.

anyone been following along this season?

"Mid season finale".... Contradiction in terms, but it's an amazing show, second only to GoT, IMO.

Really loved this season as well.
I think the last episode or maybe the one before it was the only one that irked me a tad but otherwise it has been great.

I think Lagatha’s days are numbered.
Damn that Boneless freak Ivar
Lagertha is my favorite character on the show. I'm not an expert in Norse history, but I hope she lives a long time!

last week i was more or less breathless as all started coming to a head w/rolo, bee stings, major changes in power and setting up the 2nd half. it was one of my favorite shows so far in just how well it was written and pulled off.

i don't think it follows history that closely.

bjorn is becoming so much like ragnar all around - it's amazing.

No, it isn't entirely accurate, but much of it is spot on, from what I understand.

well when rolo and ragnar weren't even brothers, there's a lot of liberty being taken with the facts. :)

when you can build a wooden church in a remote part of iceland w/o wood, you're taking liberty... >g<

Rollo was real and did actually become a Count of Rouen which was somewhere around Normandy. Although as you say, there were not even brothers.

Also funny you mention the wooden temple to Thor.

The whole time they were walking to wherever Floki was taking them I was thinking...There are no trees here to build shelter or use for firewood.
There are parts of Norse history that says when some of the Vikings would start to settle in new areas that they would bring their long boats out of the water, flip them and use them as a Roof placed about some rocks or earth as sides of the home.

Also Floki, or someone believed to be Floki...actually did lead people to iceland. And many died the first winter there as they were not truly prepared for shelter, food for themselves or live stock.

yea - it's hit or miss as to what is true. overall i love it and the story, so i give it leeway.

rollo did a LOT with france and i like how they kept that in the same ballpark. rollo and ragnar weren't even around at the same time i don't believe either.

and i love the iceland tie-in. but that's part of tonights drama i can't wait to watch unfold. been a great season so far.

Yeah, I think Ragnar and Rollo were about 20 years apart in history.

looks like he died in 865 and rollo wasn't leading people to france until 918, but not too far apart.
*Were, not we're....Damn phone does that every time, you'd think I'd be watching for it by now.

Anyway, so probably about 33 years btween Ragnar's death and Rollo's birth.

pretty close just the same.

as for typos like that, on a computer i'm fully literate. usually. on the phone, i'm a belligerent 4th grader.

Should be a great episode.. still miss Ragnar and Rollo. Although Ivar and the priest have been very good. The Floki storyline seems to be flailing a little.

I never really cared for Floki.

Ivar has the most evil look I think I've ever seen.

Have the entire season recorded but haven't got around to watching it yet. Only saw the first two episodes of the season.

It is encouraging from what I have been reading in this thread. I was skeptical the show would not be good after Ragnar died and most of the main characters are not around anymore.

Other then Bjorn I didn't find the other Ragnar kids that interesting. I think the casting is really good though. One of the kids does look like a splitting image of Ragnar.
