Greg Camarillo traded to Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings acquired Miami Dolphins wide receiver Greg Camarillo in a trade for cornerback Benny Sapp.

The trade was confirmed by Camarillo's agent in a text to ESPN.com's Tim Graham and by Sapp's agent in a post to Twitter.

"In the NFL, you have to be ready for trades at any time," Camarillo's agent, J.R. Rickert wrote in a text. "This is a great opportunity for Greg to play with one of the best quarterbacks ever."

When asked for comment about the trade, Camarillo told ESPN 760 in West Palm Beach, Fla.: "Yeah, it's crazy. I hate to be rude but I don't have time for interviews. I have to move my whole life."

Camarillo was acquired to fill the receiving void created by Sidney Rice's hip surgery that will sideline him until midseason and the migraine problem affecting Percy Harvin.

Sapp wasn't present as the Vikings hit the practice field Wednesday morning. His agent, Andy Simms, confirmed on his Twitter account that Sapp had been traded to the Dolphins.

The 28-year-old Camarillo caught 105 passes over the past two seasons for the Dolphins. He works effectively out of the slot.

Camarillo became a Dolphins fan favorite in December 2007, when his fourth career reception went 64 yards for an overtime touchdown to beat the Baltimore Ravens and avert a 0-16 season.

He was Chad Pennington's favorite target during Miami's magical 2008 campaign. Camarillo had 55 receptions for 613 yards and two touchdowns when he suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 12.

Sapp started seven regular-season games and both playoff games for the Vikings last season. The Vikings credited him with 55 tackles, three for losses and seven passes defensed. He didn't have any interceptions but forced two fumbles.

We will rue the day we didn't make this trade. :bang2:

/sarcasm

It is a sad day when you have to announce that this is sarcasm.

Think Parcells is going to ask about Hurd or Crayaton?

Hey, someone was going to say it.

That was my thought when I read the headline. I thought this was going to be a Cowboys thread. :laugh2:

How come every time someone starts a thread about Caramillo someone has to turn it into a bash Roy thread? :laugh2:

This goes to show trades aren't dead in the NFL. Who could be next? Logan Mankins maybe?

good trade for both teams
I was thinking that too.
Camarillo fits well in the slot in Minny and Marshall/Bess/Hartline, etc will be getting the reps in Miami. Sapp will add depth play in nickle packages.

Losing Sapp hurts an already weak Minny secondary.

But they did address an obvious need at receiver.

If we don't improve our OL play this year, the Vikings could bring Jake Reed and Anthony Carter out of retirement and beat us.

Just shows how concerned Minny is over Rice and Harvin.
We know Rice is out half the year... Harvin is up in the air. I actually think this means Harvin's condition is worse than let on, because Camarillo and Harvin seem to be the same type of WR. Don't think Camarillo is brought in to replace Rice while he's out.

True. Berrian is surely Rice's replacement.
