You buy the Cowboys today.
I would love to hear how to handle these 10 things even if it is to do nothing.

You have to name a GM since you bought his family out.
You have to handle Zack Martin.
(2) You can or cannot offer Trevon Diggs and CeeDee Lamb contracts, but you will at the very least get offers from their agents.
You can hire new coaches or shake up staff.
You can cut, extend or let Dak's contract play out. --we are avoiding any trades here because it takes leaps of faith on his value to other teams.
You can influence pre-season: starters play all 3 games, just 1, or hold out only front line guys?
You can sign any current NFL free agent or none.
You can pick 5 collegiate players to deep dive as 2024 draft targets.
You make one brand deal to make 1 primary major partner for the Dallas Cowboys.

You have to name a GM since you bought his family out. -- I am naming Will McClay if he will take the job. I'd also consider Louis Riddick and Eliot Wolf.
You have to handle Zack Martin. -- I'd be willing to add 25M GTD to Martin's deal and extend it 2 years.
(2) You can or cannot offer Trevon Diggs and CeeDee Lamb contracts, but you will at the very least get offers from their agents.
You can hire new coaches or shake up staff. -- Offer both deals in line with average of the top 3 players at their position.
You can cut, extend or let Dak's contract play out. --we are avoiding any trades here because it takes leaps of faith on his value to other teams.--- Offer extension at slight raise for 3 additional years. 42AAV.
You can influence pre-season: starters play all 3 games, just 1, or hold out only front line guys? -- Play any starter with more than 2 years' experience only the final game. Play it safe.
You can sign any current NFL free agent or none. --Kicker Robbie Gould
You can pick 5 collegiate players to deep dive as 2024 draft targets.--Cooper BeBee OG KSU, Kamari Lassiter CB Georgia, Cole Bishop S Utah, Braelon Allen RB Wisconsin, Emeka Egbuka WR OSU
You make one brand deal to make 1 primary major partner for the Dallas Cowboys. --- Hard to outdo Jerry here but I'd make an exclusive deal for a Traeger branded Cowboys badged smoker.

Will McClay is a no brainer to hire as GM.
Trade Martin for some high draft picks if he wants too much money on the extension.
Sign either Diggs or Lamb, franchise the other and do that deal the following year.
Keep coaching staff as is, keep the continuity.
Let Dak play this season, and evaluate after that. It also may include moving on from the coaching staff as well as Dak if not successful.
PS games, 2 series each game, and 1/2 for one game, or at least half way through 2nd quarter.
No FA out there I would want right now.
Draft targets ... this I need to look at to see, have no idea right now. So ... 5 players from Ohio State .... like Marvin Harrison Jr. being one of them.
Partner with ... hmmm ... tough one. I will say stick with Ford. American brand, nation wide as Dallas fans are. (I am not a Ford fan though, don't dislike them, but not a big fan either)

You have to name a GM since you bought his family out. Will McClay
You have to handle Zack Martin. Extension ~3x$65
(2) You can or cannot offer Trevon Diggs and CeeDee Lamb contracts, but you will at the very least get offers from their agents. Extension for Diggs ~4x$21, Extension for Lamb ~4x$30 (2025)
You can hire new coaches or shake up staff. Keeping the staff, but it's a 1-year window
You can cut, extend or let Dak's contract play out. --we are avoiding any trades here because it takes leaps of faith on his value to other teams. Extend ~5x$53 (2025)
You can influence pre-season: starters play all 3 games, just 1, or hold out only front line guys? Play a half in one game
You can sign any current NFL free agent or none Deion Jones, David Johnson (doesn't matter much who, but a vet at each position)

1. Pay for and get Bill Belichick, Don't want Scouting Department compromised in any way!
2. Zack Martin, sign to a 3 year contract and use him for the remainder of his career as the foundation of a strong offensive line, still. Lots of bonus money included over duration.
3. Both sides of the passing game and NFL top shell. Ensure both are signed within a year.
4. Maintain current staff unless one coach becomes a Head Coach.
5. 2 year contract with realistic guarantees for Dak Prescott...put today's faith in him which should have been earned at present.
6. Max competition needed players and 'rooks' for film reviews. As with Parcells, enough play time so that all players show they have earned their spots.
7.

7/6/23: Bullard is a corner/safety hybrid who is similar to Detroit Lions defensive backs C.J. Gardner-Johnson and Brian Branch. In 2022, Bullard recorded 46 tackles, two interceptions, three passes broken up and 3.5 sacks. Bullard is highly instinctive, tough and physical, and has excellent feel and awareness. Bullard has a thinner frame, so it would help him to gain some weight for the NFL.

7/7/23: In 2022, Ford played well for the Longhorns, totaling 119 tackles, two sacks, four interceptions and two pass breakups. It was an outstanding junior year for Ford, who had recorded 53 tackles in the previous season.

Answers to all questions:
1. Hire Will McClay
2. I would let the GM I just hired make all other decisions like hiring a HC, handling cap issues, plan for the draft, etc.

In short, as owner I would do what the winning owners of the last 28 SBs did:

  • I would establish the organizational goal of winning a championship within 4 years.
  • Hire the right GM and delegate appropriate authority to that GM to hire his chosen HC and run football operations.
  • I would hold him accountable for results. If they are acceptable to me as owner, I reward accordingly. If not I hire another GM.
We forget how weird the owner does things here in Dallas. He does not run it like it should be if winning championship is the goal. The results the last nearly three decades with no accountability for himself or family members speaks for itself.

I hire Jerry immediately to be the GM and King Emperor Of all things Cowboys. Certain and specific posters here would be banned for life as they only sell the same old same old worn out diatribe every chance they get. Jelly will get you nowhere! Thx in advance…

Pay Zach
Offer diggs
Trade Lamb. Draft a WR to come in with Maye who doesn't drop the easy ones
New staff
Dak contract plays out and we weigh offers for a trade that's not allowed
Starters play first half of the first 2 playoff games
James Robinson is a Giant....need a kicker. Melvin Ingram?
All in on Drake Maye. Dak and and some draft capital
Tesla. One of the biggest warehouses I've ever seen is in Austin by the airport

In the bleak years I would have hired Jimmy as President of Football Operations and let him hire the GM. Jimmy's contract would include a $100M bonus for winning the Super Bowl.

In the War Room, Imagine McClay as GM with Jimmy in Jerry's chair...

This year and the next couple of years are not rebuild years. Not time for radical changes.

I don't want to give Diggs an obsurd contract. He's not Deion or Revis. However, in a win now mode it's probably the only option.
- In March 2024 Franchise Tag and consider trading.

Need to see Lamb this year before deciding. Is he a megastar or is he the 26 year old version of Brandin Cooks...Really good but not worth a megastar contract?

Zack Martin: The top OG contract averages 20.4M vs 14M for Martin. I give him the extra 6.4M for 2023 but insist the signing is delayed until after camp...
- i.e. When it is not a significant story with the media...Don't want to appear to have given in to player demands.
- Future years to be discussed later.

You buy the Cowboys today.
I would love to hear how to handle these 10 things even if it is to do nothing.

You have to name a GM since you bought his family out.
I would promote Will McClay to General Manager. Immediately.
You have to handle Zack Martin.
I would defer to McClay's judgment.
(2) You can or cannot offer Trevon Diggs and CeeDee Lamb contracts, but you will at the very least get offers from their agents.
I would ask McClay to explain which of the various offers will have minimum impact on the team's salary cap for the foreseeable future. And then ask which option would he support the most and for what reason.
You can hire new coaches or shake up staff.
I would do nothing. McClay would hire or fire coaching staff. I would either retain McClay for as long as he is elevating the team's opportunities towards championship success. Or can him when that expectation appears to have run out.
You can cut, extend or let Dak's contract play out. --we are avoiding any trades here because it takes leaps of faith on his value to other teams.
I would defer to McClay's judgment. I would ask for an extensive explanation if the judgment is to cut Prescott. McClay's job might possibly hinge upon whether I would agree with his rational.
You can influence pre-season: starters play all 3 games, just 1, or hold out only front line guys?
I would defer to the coaching staff's judgment.
You can sign any current NFL free agent or none.
If current meant last May 30th, I would have asked McClay his thoughts of adding DeAndre Hopkins to the roster. My support would be immediately signing Hopkins if McClay was supportive of acquiring him.

I held no personal free agency aspirations that interested me as much as that for Hopkins. For that reason, I would be totally behind McClay's decision making for any other viable free agent signings.
You can pick 5 collegiate players to deep dive as 2024 draft targets.
I would ask McClay's input concerning:
  • Alabama's JC Latham, offensive tackle
  • Clemson's Barrett Carter, linebacker
  • LSU's Maason Smith, defensive tackle
  • Ohio State's Donovan Jackson, offensive guard
  • Washington's Michael Penix Jr., quarterback

You make one brand deal to make 1 primary major partner for the Dallas Cowboys.
Not sure if current league marketing and broadcasting contractual agreements would interfere but my number one choice would be The Walt Disney Company. The profitability tie-ins with resorts alone is too financially enticing to not strongly consider.

1. I'm the new Jerry. I AM THE GM AMD THE OWNER. GET OVER IT!
2. Zack Martin, call his bluff. Extend him after the season.
3. Sign Diggs and Lamb ASAP.
4. Hire Dan Quinn as head coach and find a new OC that has worked with Kyle Shanahan.
5. Cut Dak. Tank for the top QB in the draft.
6. Let the young guys play preseason.
7. Caleb Williams and Drake Maye.

Very very good questions……but first order of business would be for me to interview and hire more Dallas Cheerleaders.

gotta have priorities in order

And I think you just found the next Cowboy brand Jerry should sponsor since he's made billions off that slogan................... .....Head and Shoulders.

If I bought the Cowboys, i would just turn around and try to resell them to Elon Musk for $20B and let him cut the fat and downsize the excess "talent" . I would take my profit, live and enjoy life and make sure part of the deal with Elon was putting Jimmy on the ROH and a fountain statue of him in front of the stadium peeing on Jerry..

I thought about Jimmy but reality is he'd likely suck at the job and doesn't want to work like that anyway.
His strength was mostly in knowing all the top talent from his recruiting days and having a staff that brought a Miami 4-3 defense to Dallas.
Once that defense was everywhere and his staff spun out across league he really struggled in Miami.
But even for his well-paid network gigs they have to fight to get him out of South Florida for even days at a time.
A guy from that era who would interest me is Moose.
Moose as an asst to Will would be pretty awesome.

Completely understand all the other calls you make.

Going to be an interesting season in Dallas IMO.
On paper this is the most talent they have had in many, many years.

There is absolutely no excuse for Jimmy not being in the ROH.
It's a terrible look for Jerry.
I just hope Jimmy gets in before he passes.
