In a twist of irony, a West Virginia woman is trying to collect money from a collection agency. Diana Mey, of Wheeling, W. Va., won the largest judgment ever against an abusive debt collection company -- more than $10 million.

"I'm a mom, and I'm a housewife, and I'm an accidental activist," Mey said.

From her small-town home base in Wheeling, Mey went after a debt collection empire that hounds people nationwide and won. But she still hasn't received any money.

"I don't know that I'll ever collect a dime, but if I can get their operation shut down, that would make me very happy."

Slime like this will slither away and she will not get paid.
They will go belly up and morph into a new company and do the same thing.

Company owners should not be protected by corporate umbrellas from criminal charges. These guys need to be arrested.

I'm not sure who is worse, debt collectors, policemen or tow truck drivers. I find them all repulsive.

Good job, lady!

I find it repulsive that one would group all policemen in together when making that comment.

I've only had a car towed once, so I can't speak for tow truck drivers, but even that I question. Now debt collectors? Burn them! (though I don't know any of them either.)

The only people worse than debt collectors are used car salesmen.

LOL. I sold new and used cars back in the day. New car salesman are on par with used ones.

Unless you plan on negotiating the debt, there is no reason to have any discussion at all with debt collectors.

Yup.

Had the same thing happen to me. My father has the same name as I do. There was a bill overdue that I didn't know about. The bill company never called me for whatever reason until about 2 years went bye. Then they called, but they call my dad instead of myself (finding out the billing was wrong as well).

When things got testy, we looked to sue but were told it was a waste of time because any money worth a damn will cause the company to go belly up and re-form under a new company. So I basically wound up suing in small claims court for the billing fee that was owed and won the case. Unfortunately, I didn't know you were supposed to put that in your taxes and got a bill from the IRS a year afterwards :banghead:
