Cowboys to activate extra running back

Dallas is short one running back against Denver, namely Felix Jones.

To make up for his absence, the team will activate Chauncey Washington from their practice squad and cut Marvin White before their trip to the Rocky Mountains.

Washington will also serve as an insurance policy if Marion Barber can't make it through the entire game healthy.

Barber is expected to start for the Cowboys, but backup Tashard Choice may be more involved than usual so Barber doesn't aggravate his quadriceps injury.

Team stats are skewed this early in the season by a small sample size and a team's schedule, but Sunday's game should still provide a great test of team strength's between Dallas' dominant rushing attack (first in yards, yards per carry), and Denver's defense, ranked first in points and yards allowed.

They gave him an injury settlement, which means they can't bring him back until after so much time as passed (not sure how long). They were discussing it on Talking Cowboys.

Marvin White was drafted and played for the Cincinnati Bengals for two years before getting released on the final cutdown this year.

Sensabaugh said Washington laid some big hits on kickoff returns last season so hopefully we can see that in this game.

Roster move

The Cowboys made their roster move today, promoting running back Chauncey Washington from the practice squad. He has worked on the special teams units all week and will be used as an emergency running back if Marion Barber's injured left quadriceps doesn't hold up for the entire game. Barber will start.

To get Washington on the 53-player roster, the Cowboys released safety Marvin White. But they could re-sign the former TCU standout on Monday if White clears waivers.

Washington was signed to the Cowboys' practice squad on Sept. 22. He has four career carries, all with Jacksonville last season.
