Of course I post something about it since I'm so interested and then fall asleep 30 minutes before it happens. lol typical :bang2: :bang2: :bang2:

It does look like I might not have missed much. Were there any images of Mars or just visual of the NASA team working to ensure safe landing?

Mostly shots were of the NASA team working and calling out info/events, along w/ some Computer Simulations of the Mars arrival and landing sequences, plus some shots of the Live Telemetry Visualization - Trajectory is what was shown.

First actual Mars surface images came in the form of a thumbnail image (64x64) of the Rover's wheel on Mars and shadow of the Rover from the late afternoon Sun... and moments later, a Hi Res 256 Pix image.

Nothing too crazy as far as live views and images, more just about being informed of the monumental achievement of the event as it was unfolding. I watched it through the cnet.com link you provided.

Thanks for your OP. :)

I so wanted to watch this last night, but there is no way I could. :/ Though, I did have an alarm (my dog) wake me up about 15 minutes after it was confirmed. I slept great after that. :)

I gave a presentation on the Curiosity landing last Wednesday to a fraternity I belong too. What NASA did is unprecedented. Not only to ~blindly~ land a car sized vehicle on Mars, to do it in the fashion that they did. (whole sky crane) Topped off with the fact it's a technology they have never used before on the largest thing they've ever attempted to land before.

Something else that is crazy that often gets over looked is the parachute that was deployed. This parachute was 52 feet in diameter and was deployed at mach 2.2 (about 1676.4mph which is faster than most bullets travel) carrying over 2,000lbs. When a man skydives, when the parachute opens the divers gets hit with quite a few G forces. This is a man falling at 120mph weighing 200lbs. Curiosity was over 2,000lbs traveling at 1,600+mph. It amazing that the parachute isn't completely annihilated when it is deployed from the combination of sheer speed and weight that it is slammed with upon deployment!

One word: WOW.

I recorded NASA tv last night, hoping they would show something. Wake up, play it, and all it shows is all of them hugging and high fiving. When I get home, I am going to fast forward through the whole thing, and see, if they show more.
