.... Ok Gents, Im not here to glare on bad run defense. They'll fix it by years end.

I will say this, Sam Williams is huge piece to anti-run game. Good instincts, good speed on angles and follows the puck to where its going.

Worth mentioning, also good tackler. Well, the D missed him yesterday.

College scouting report showed he was weak against the run - at him.
Chasing from the back side good.

None of those guys would have made much of a difference, as they were guys when healthy were apart of this bad run defense!!

I’m excited about Williams but I’m not certain he moves the needle much yesterday I think we still get gashed

Maybe. I think the run defense will settle down. Hankins looks like a great add, Clark looks to be the real deal, Hooker is a difference maker, and he was out, Sam is a bull out there and has the makings of a good run stopper...give them some time, and it will click.

Tbh, I'm not convinced letting them run wasn't the gameplan after going up big. I mean we won by 20, and it was only close for a very brief moment. Allowing them to sustain long drives and burn the clock kinda played right into our hands.

Sure did. We needed someone to body slam and pin down Fields early in the first quarter.

We got gashed because we had the lead and was taking away everything deep. We made them run the clock out for us. So how does Sam help stop the run if we're letting them run?

PS -Quinn is a genius for forcing them to run the clock out for us.

I know this is far out. But if you want to stop the run in the middle, Id look at my boy Mike Tafua as a run downs LBer, maybe put him in the middle on run downs, in camp of course. Not talking this year.

Letting them run was part of the gameplan. You can hear DQ insinuating that in the press conference, talking about how he sometimes looks back and wonders if he put his guys in the right position during the right situations.

I had a similar thought but it was more limited to Fields getting outside and outrunning the defense. There was one play in particular where Fields runs left and Armstrong is chasing him but he is too slow to catch him. Fields went for about 20 yards or so. I was wondering is Williams would have run him down because he has more speed than Armstrong.

He has 9 tackles and 2 were sacks
Love the kid but run defense isn’t hurt by him being out. Pass defense is his strength and he’s showing he could be a really good edge rusher

The absence of a rookie who’s had limited snaps this season wasn’t the reason we weren’t able to stop the run. Stopping the run has been an issue all season. It’s been an issue for years!
