This stat means next to nothing and only invites a negative response towards Dak after a game which he really doesn't deserve much criticism.

It only means nothing to Dak haters because it doesn't fit the narrative

What specifically is this stat telling you?
Explain it to me like I'm a five year old.
EPA - a measure of success which defines the value of each play by the effect it has on the offense's likelihood to score.

Dak wasn't as sharp as he usually is but i guess it is to be expected in a game 1, new system, with weather.
Not only that, he didn't play in any of the preseason games. Interested to see a stat of how QBs who played in the preseason looked versus QBs who didn't. Takes time to knock off that rust.

I struggle with the idea that Dak played poorly last night, but I'm not sure this is much of an argument. Over a larger sample size I see merit to EPA/play. For a game like this one, and especially one where your QB only threw about 20 times it's pretty irrelevant.

Dak throughout his career has had some pretty bad games where he has racked up stats, and some of his most impressive performances have come when those stats were pretty ordinary.

From last night I saw a guy who could have had a better night statistically had it not been for a few drops, but there are a few of those where you could see that he just needed to drive the ball a little more into a receiver or just have slightly better placement. Had the Cowboys needed more from Dak last night he probably could have came away with stronger numbers, but he really didn't have to, and when you factor in game situations, weather conditions, etc I think Dak did just fine. I almost prefer this form of Dak more than the one who tries to throw for 400+ yards. When he can be in a less is more type of situation where the Cowboys can run the ball more than they throw it he is typically at his best.

It wasn’t a good day for quarterback play league wide. The lack of preseason reps is glaring.

I know that. I looked it up myself before I responded.

Please explain to me how it is actually relevant in the real world, big picture assessment after game #1.

Also, how does it factor in every other aspect of the play?

Dak played decent last night. Posting these micro view nerd stats as a call out of the "haters" is only going to bring the hate.
