New "Zone Whipping Boy" Award
Jaylon can rest easy. He has competition now from other second rounders. Randy Gregory. Connor Williams, only because #66 played so well. Greg Zuerlein is an obvious one, but it's just a given we're going to dog the kicker. But say hello to the new whipping boy, Anthony Brown! Those like me who relied on training camp reports from the DC.Com podcasts and some of the bigger fan-made podcasts like Voch Lombardi, all we heard through training camp was that Anthony Brown will be lucky to make the cut because of how the younger and newer corners were playing, so I was shocked when he was named the starter.

Not Brady, Gronk, Barrett or any usual suspect. Vita Vea. Don't deny that every single one of you wished we had a force like that at defensive tackle after watching what he did late in the game. Jerry and Jimmy once locked down a Super Bowl defense by finding Charles Haley. Do we have the interior version from anyone this year? Our linebackers can play. Tank was all over the field, I almost felt sorry for him. Secondary was getting walked over, but if we could just get that kind of dominator in the middle, imagine what would happen.
The "You Called It Zoner" Award
Dak took up most of the blood pressure from everyone worried if we were going to be ready for the defending Super Bowl Champs since we had seen so little of him. But props to those who kept pointing out their worry with Zuerlein and his back injury. Which leads me to....
The "Best Odds for First Starter to Get Cut" Award
All money is on Zuerlein. Nothing more need be said. Collingsworth was spot on when he said how crushing it would have been to see him miss that last FG after we fought all game. Zuerlein was playing for his NFL career last night. On the bright side, Bryan Anger looks like a solid budget punter this year.
The "Deja Vu" Award
Kellen Moore and Sean Payton. Did he not call a perfect game against that defense? It was deja vu Sean Payton. Come up with a smart gameplan, run it to perfection, and mix in some crazy plays to keep them honest. Kellen has even perfected that no personality intensity on the sidelines that Payton was great at.
The "Damn, That Boy Can Play!" Award
Where are the Dak haters now?
The "Oh %*#$#, THAT Boy Can Still Play Too!!" Award
Gronk and Antonio Brown. Both had vacations, and stumbled in last year and got hot late. Both look like they're going to have the same seasons that made them All Pros on the Steelers and Pats.
The "Step Up Young Man" Award
CeeDee had some good plays. And it's obvious he's more elusive at YAC vs Coop. Coop takes the hits, CeeDee tries to wiggle out of them. Maybe that's what leads to those drops? But he needs to figure it out quick because that is a fatal flaw that is going to make or break his career this year. Enjoy that trio now though with Gallup because I don't see how we pay for it next year.
The "Underrated Team Player" Award
Zeke. He didn't get much focus. He didn't care. He did his thing for team. He made all the blocks. If Darwin hadn't blown his block or Dak made that throw in the red zone Zeke would have a TD. Zeke at fullback, how great was that!?
The "Big Mike Hot Seat" Award
Good morale loss if such a thing exists, but why are we kicking a 60 yard field goal with a bad back? How do you lose a game that you dominate so much in TOP and Turnovers? Stupid mistakes, penalties that cost us. If that game had been a blowout loss, there would be a lot more calls for his head today.
The "Which of the 3 Most Concerns You" Award
Offense is on no one's list this morning. Defense had some major flaws, but did we all see something better than last year? I think we did. Don't underestimate that offense we played. They have 4 HOFers at the skill positions - Brady, Gronk, Brown and Evans. It LOOKS like we can probably stop the run which is a big jump from last year, but if we don't get more pressure from that DLine or better talent in the secondary, it's not going to matter even if it isn't Brady and Company. But Special Teams wins the prize this week. Zuerlein single-handedly pushing them to win this, but there were other mistakes too. Refs didn't cost us the game, some of the blown coverage in defense or lack of pressure at times didn't help, but if you want to play the blame game, it was Special Teams that cost us that game.
