You got that right. Insane what announcers are paid now.
Not really, the nfl games are cash cows to fox and cbs, so it makes sense they would want the best announcers, and pay them big money.
It really is. I think there’s currently a ‘bubble’ created by a diverse group of broadcasting partners with the NFL. And a few ‘name guys’ were able to capitalize on that to get huge paydays.
But I expect that bubble to quickly burst and things to even out pretty quickly as more people get the opportunity to show what they can do in the job.
Buck, Aikman, and Al Michaels struck while the iron was hot, and networks were desperate for names.
I dont think it is a bubble,
cbs and fox make a ton of money off nfl games , and sometimes cbs and fox have games on at same time. So they will do all they can to get fans to
watch their game . the networks highest ratings are nfl games, so they make a lot off advertising for those games.
Cbs was smart to grab romo, and then extend him, espn was smart to get aikman and buck, as they were hurting in the announcer area.
They should do more to find new talent. and pay them big if they are good.
