Weird season, with the salary cap not expecting to make a huge jump as expected pre-pandemic if you look at baseball FA are not getting big contracts does the NFL follow suit. Is this the year guys are not going to take long term contracts because the money isn't available which could be very beneficial for the Cowboys.
Will the stagnant FA effect how teams operate in the draft?

no combine, no in-person evaluation that makes this draft very difficult to know what you are getting until you got them in the building.
  • Guys that you question their athleticism might fall down the board.
  • Character questions might cause guys to fall down the board.
  • Injury concerns might cause guys to fall down the board.

This is going to be a tricky draft to operate in and might be a hard draft to trade down in, or might be the opposite teams might have so many question marks about players and have a few guys they feel very good/ comfortable with they might be willing to trade up to avoid risk.

QB's I don't think people will question take any of those top 3 guys but the Lance's and Jones's of the world do they become more or less sought after when you consider Farley's injury concerns, Surtain athleticism, Micah's off the field questions?

Do chess pieces like Pitts become more important since you can do the testing where he can play multiple positions or JOK who can play any LB spot in a 4-3 defense, Slater if he can't do a combine would teams feel more comfortable with him where if he doesn't end up being a great OT at the very least you have a perennial pro bowl interior o-linemen.

On top of all these things, this is not a star-studded draft class to find a guy to build you team around, but there is plenty of depth for building the core around your team.

Knowing what we know now, would you feel more comfortable sticking and picking at 10 or trying to move down and have a bunch of darts?

I personally like Surtain but love Farley. For me if he’s there at 10 I take him and go from there. I like the idea of having my two outside CB’s being secure for the next 3-4 years cheap and super talented with ball skills.

I may trade the 3rd round comp coupled with our other 3rd to get another pick in round two depending how the board falls. I’d like to stay put other than that but if a guy slides like Biadasz then I’m good with sending a conditional or two to trade up.

There's more busts in the first round than people want to believe, so I expect that to be the same....

But I do think there will be more than the usual amount of later round hits....the guys that rise during their senior year (imagine Burrow not having 2019 at LSU) and continue upward from there.

Tough to say what to do at 10 without knowing what's there, but given that we already have ten picks, I'm not sure moving back makes sense.

Its a good point up against mine because because the more shots they have, the better chance of hitting on some starters late, but then again....there's no way 12-13 picks will make the team and contribute. The defense was legendary bad this year and the 4th and 5th rounders mostly sat.

I agree, Can't see the Cowboys passing up Farley at 10. The Cowboys always target those elite athletes, he fits their profile. I also do like Surtain, but not as much as Farley. The two teams to watch in front of us needing corners: Carolina/Denver, but they also need QB's, too.

Yeah QB’s will be key in the top 10. As far our threats:

Carolina went all defense last draft and are publicly not into Teddy longterm. They either go QB or O-line, can’t see them going defense again even though they do have a hole at CB. They’ll be a player in FA too as they have cap you want to mix vets with youth on D not all rooks and sophs.

Denver is the most likely IMO to go CB ahead of us. They have a defensive HC, a need at the position, and a QB/offense they’ve invested a lot of draft capital in. They may go O-line, but it’s looking like defense. This is one of those spots I hope a DE rises in the pre-draft and convinces them they have their Miller replacement.

I think the Eagles are the dark-horse to take a CB. Depending on who their HC is they may want to address a secondary that hasn’t had a first round pick in years. They also have front 7 issues and love drafting 1st round DE’s so I can see them going Parsons or Paye/other DE riser. With Wentz probably staying, they will also address offense. So depending on what they deem as more immediate it could be between CB/LB/DE or WR/OL. A lot of needs but based on their evaluations Farley/Surtain could sneak in there at 6.
