Not looking for whining about the player/pick. What are the pro and cons of DeMarvion Overshown

Overshown's the one pick I really like in this class. I think we followed good process there.

-He's a pretty darn good athlete. Starter caliber.
-He's a great scheme fit for Dan Quinn. That classic safety-LB tweener that Quinn lines up all over his defense. And he pass rushes too!
-He went right in his projected range.

My only cause for concern is that he's kind of a late bloomer. He'll be a 23 yo rook, and last year was his first really productive season. So there's not a big track record with him. And good NFL players tend to start producing earlier than he did.

But he checks a lot of boxes. A 3rd rounder is always going to come with blemishes... we found a guy who fits the defense like a glove and has the potential to pay the pick off.

I was surprised so many zones mocked him to Dallas in the draft contest. Was there a reason why his name showed up over and over?

Fits what we do in Quinn's.defense. He, Micah.and Maxi will really add to the defense.

He's not an Xs and Os player..but he has elite instincts.

Pros: Great motor, hits hard, profiles to a certain player DQ likes to use (ie Kam Chancellor)

Cons: Average at best strength to take on blocks, Might take a couple of years to reach his potential

High energy physical player. Fits Quinn’s hybrid LB/S role. Has great timing while blitzing; can get skinny and moving through trash. Likes to lay the wood on ball carriers.

I hope Overshown is what we missed on in Cox. OK to admit that 4th round pick didn’t work out.

He was moved from safety to LB after year 2. Then had a complete coaching staff change after year 3. Hopefully we are getting him with a lot more room to grow as a LB.

We'll likely skate by with what we have, with Overshown coming in handy. Let's see if Overshown shows up decently. Mazi will help our cause, too.
