-Mazi Smith: Probably play about 30% to 35% of the snaps. Doesnt offer much in the passing game right now, and that snap count is pretty typical for a run defending DT

-Luke Schoonmaker: I expected him to be behind Ferguson even before the foot injury. He will get some run as a blocker of he is healthy, but I dont expect much as a reciever

- DeMarvion Overshown: Hard to say. He is an ascending player, but I expect him to be behind Clark. I think his 2023 playing time depends on health. If an LB or Kearse goes down, he will tons of snaps

- Vikiami Fehoko: We are thin inside, but that Golston also figures into the 3T rotation. I think Golston would be ahead of Fehoko both inside and as a run down DE. As an effort guy, I could still see him getting about 200 or so snaps with a splash play here and there

- Asim Richards: I dont expect to see him in the field. I think 2023 is a transition year for him, and he will be buried on depth chart. Could see him competing for a starting spot in 2024 though

- Eric Scott: Likely to make the roster, but at most will play ST

- Deuce Vaughn: I think they will bring in a #2 HB, and Vaughn should do well as a high usage 3rd HB. Could see about 80-100 carries

- Jalen Brooks. Either he doesnt make the roster or he contributes on ST. Cropper may be a better WR

Maybe you could be a little more in depth?
How about they get in the trenches.
Learn to do their role, given their duty as per the playbook / play scheme.
Then the aforementioned picture.

Iits really as simple as that
I'll use my classic quotes that i don"t post often

We"ll see

I"ll know better by January

IMO, it’s way too early to know what any of these guys can really be. We haven’t seen any of them in pads against NFL competition. Watching their college game films is really all we have. So until we see some pre-season game action or at least practice in pads at TC, this all guess work.

Heres my guesswork:
  • Mazi Smith- of all the draft picks, I think he will get the most snaps. He may struggle early but by mid season I think we will begin to see some value, especially stopping the run.
  • Luke Schoonmaker- he will play immediately but I don’t think he will be impactful this year. He has a good skill set, is more athletic than many think but I don’t think he will have gaudy numbers this year.
  • DeMarvion Overshown- very athletic but raw. He will be an immediate ST player with impact and will see some snaps. But I see him as a developmental project that will take at least a year.
  • Vikiami Fehoko- like Overshown, this guy will need some time to develop. Will be interesting to see how he’s used. This team is deep at DL, so he will need to prove early that he can learn and develop. May be a practice squad candidate if he doesn’t show much early.
  • Asim Richards- we need help in the OL so I’m hoping he can show something early. Honestly I don’t know enough about this guy to have much of an opinion.
  • Eric Scott- this kid has already heard some praise from Dan Quinn. He may be one of the sleepers of this draft class like DeRon Bland was last year. We will see, soon.
  • Deuce Vaughn- the biggest wild card in this draft. I think he’s going to be good and good early. I saw him play in college in person several times and he’s off the charts quick and sneaky good as a receiver. I expect him to only get 4-5 touches a game but he will make some plays. I see him as a smaller version of Tony Pollard but can only handle small doses of exposure.
  • Jalen Brooks- I know almost nothing about this kid so I will withhold an opinion.
By the end of TC we will know a lot more.

Aspirational or realistic?

I hope Moonshaker sees the field and makes any meaningful contributions. I’ve just been fooled too many times by preseason “minor” injuries with this team.

I’d love to see Mazi dominate the interior, require a double team on every play, stuff the run, and collapse the pocket. Realistically, I expect him to be a rotational player for short yardage who will develop over the season and possibly take Hankins snaps by the end. My expectations are very low bc I was so thoroughly underwhelmed by his collage tape.

Overshown I expect to play STs and get a few nickel/dime snaps here and there. I expect a couple nice plays here and there with limited snaps, plays that show his speed and athleticism.

Fehoko…I think we will miss the few snaps he gets he will be so forgotten. Would love to see him surpass Gholston on the depth chart but probably won’t be this year.

Deuce….I have no idea. On one hand I could see him being a dynamo little playmaker that blows everyone away but on the other I could see him getting swallowed in the pros.

If we got any day 1 starters from this draft I will be surprised honestly.
The rest of the players…will be fighting for snaps and maybe even roster spots IMO unless there are injuries.

Thanks for sharing ....

I don't see or expect any of the rookies to start this season early on.

- Mazzi will see backup rotation time behind Hankins, .I see a Hankins/Osa starting duo in the front line starters ..but expect considerable rookie snaps

-Schoon will eventually contribute as No.2 TE becuz he's renown for his blocking prowess. Especially if it is Marty Bennett like. He'll be spoon fed gradually
as a receiver. Ferguson is ahead of him in NFL game experience, TE nuisances. nd Dak rapport so he starts out as No.1 ..but could that change during season ?
How much will be the battle of Schoon vs Hendershot for No.2 TE playing time ?

- Overshown will be worked in as No.3 LB, ..he'll see special teams but with LVE and Clark likely starters, Overshown not pressed to start. he's still learning the LB role
per conversion from safety to LB in college. Could get the nickel work that was once thought of Jabrail Cox.

- Fehoko will be in the rotation in the DL,.. mostly at nickel DT rotation, i dunno how much will he worked the DE role, maybe its' a see-look this summer with that.
The talk has been 3 tech, so he could even be the presence that gets Gallimore knocked off the roster.

- Richards it's said that he really needs an offseason program to significantly increase his strength core (ala Terrence Steele)
but team is excited about his athleticism and versatility.. Dunno what his role and permanent position status.
Could he be the next Steele type project ?

- Scott: team traded up to nab him so that speaks volume of how high they must be on him. Could he be the next Daron Bland type ?
I heard where he played mostly zone in college, so man coverage is gonna be a learning curve. Should be 4th or 5th on the current roster depth
but he's not pressed to start among top 3 or 4. Special teams a must.

- Vaugh should bring some splash play potential and ability in the backup RB rotation - I expect he could be No.3 role. and certain packages, but I see
vet Ronald Jones ahead of Deuce come Day 1.
I could see Deuce 2nd man Kick return duties. (previously held by M. Davis)
Deuce seems more quick than he is fast, but seems to have a knack for big play in both run/pass game at college level. He's so short that
defenders gonna have tough time spotting him initially.

- Jalen Brooks- i see as Noah Brown No.2 -behind Simi Fehoko. .. unless he is leaps and bounds over Tolbert and Simi, ..I also see Brooks as practice squadee than
53 roster. Scouted as type to make closely contested battled, circus catches over tight coverage DBs.

T J Bass (OL) and LB Isiah Land were not on your rookie list, but as undrafted rookies, I can see them making a strong case to make the 53 roster in right situation.
- Bass is noted to be a sound technician with great strength core and aggression, but just not athletic enuff for OT, but if he were to move inside at OG ?
- Land once had an astounding 19 sack season - but lack of size/strength was a major issue at the edge, and hasn't been the off ball LB type, but if he
were gradually groomed along ?

-Mazi I expect to start from Day #1 and be very good. He is going to change the personality and attitude of the Dline. Running will now be difficult when he is in there.

-My expectations are lowering for Luke every day. He basically missed all of OTA and minicamps. That is typically a death sentence for a rookie making an impact his first year. TE's probably have the most to learn of any position other than QB so it makes it worse. If he plays all TC then I would hope that he can make a small impact early blocking and then gather steam in the 2nd half of the year.

-Overshawn I dont have much. Some guys would have to get hurt for him to get much PT. Maybe some nickel stuff here and there the 2nd half of the year.

-Deuce is basically the only other guy I have any kind of expectations for. But I lack confidence in the coaching staff carving out a role for him or using him properly. Special teams and maybe some end arounds here and there Unless some injuries happen.

As we have seen over the past three drafts.
The Cowboys keep working the O line to see if they can find themselves a gem.
Well after a year or two of polishing.

As usual, good analysis Bobhaze!! I agree that until we see them in some NFL games, it's hard to have any kind of expectations. I guess, for now, I can say I "expect" them to play hard and try their best.

-Mazi Smith Backup with potential to get starter reps if needed

-Luke Schoonmaker Contend for starting spot, split reps with fergie

- DeMarvion Overshown Spot duty, backup role

- Vikiami Fehoko No clue right now. Would like to avoid the PS if we can but need to see him in pads 1st.

- Asim Richards Backup

- Eric Scott Backup maybe spot duty depending on game situations

- Deuce Vaughn 5ish touches a game if Pollard is healthy, more if not.

- Jalen Brooks No clue right now. Would like to avoid the PS if we can but need to see him in pads 1st. Could knock off Houston or Simi for the last roster spot.

It’s funny how some of you underestimate Schoonmaker. Barring injury he is the most talented tight end on the roster and it’s not even close. If Mazi can take on double team blocks, the defense takes another step towards greatness.

I think Mazi, Shoonmaker, and Deuce will all be solid first year contributes with Mazi starting.

I think the rest will be bit players and special team guys but Overshown will make a few plays here and there that will make people start calling for him to get more time.

Mazi is the first blue chip prospect the team has invested in the DL. Hope it pays off. Schoon should have been Torrence, so my view of him will be based on how Torrence pans out at a huge position of need. I hope Osho doesnt see the field which means the LSU boys are balling. If Fehoko cant beat out Gholston that means they both suck. Richards Scott and Brooks are projects. Prob need a year to see what they turn out to be. Rich could be a starter next year. Deuce is a tough one. He could be a huge waste of a pick or he could be electric if he can find a niche and his college tape holds up at this level. RB is another position of need. He will be given a chance and I think Luepke will also. If one hits, Dallas will have hit the lotto. I expect little from either but hope is large.

-Mazi Smith
I think he makes an impact this season. May take 1/4 of the season before we see his true impact, as a run stuffer. Need to see how they use him in the pass rush, and how he develops there.

-Luke Schoonmaker
I see him being worked in behind Ferguson and Hendershot. Then all 3 getting pretty much equal time, until one emerges as the lead TE. TC will tell us more though.

- DeMarvion Overshown
He will be mostly ST's, and get some plays, or opportunities to spell Kearse. He could be used to spy on the more mobile QB's as well.

- Vikiami Fehoko
May get a few plays in the rotation, but will need to show something to earn more. I think more of a 2024 player.

- Asim Richards
Need to see him in TC, to see where he fits in for depth. More of a 2024 guy.

- Eric Scott
Everyone is high on him, but need to see him in TC as well. He may be like Bland, and will take until later in the season to get his opportunities more. Hopefully not because of injuries.

- Deuce Vaughn
He will get his plays in, and I think in a Lance Dunbar type way. Not just gadget plays. I don't see him getting a lot from the start though. Depending how Davis and / or Jones does as the backup RB.

- Jalen Brooks
I don't really know much about him, but he may be one of those players fans will over hype in TC. For now I will say a PS player.

What are you basing if off of ? Draft round status ?

Schoon has not even played a single NFL game to display this talent ..and you're already anointing him as the most talented TE on the roster ?
