What can realistically be done?

I’m not typically a thread guy, but as someone who never in their conscious life has seen true postseason success as a fan of this team, I just wanted to get some rational thoughts out about how a random poster realistically sees how this team can make tangible improvement. Idk maybe it would make me feel better. A few ideas here:

1) First isn’t really an idea, but Dak isn’t going anywhere in the next year at the very least and more than likely until 24/25. Just getting that out of the way.

2) The team identity needs to shift first and foremost. Currently as constructed there is a 60/31 split between offensive and defensive spend. I understand the QB obviously skews that, but contracts that are not necessary on the offense need to be purged (Zeke, Shultz, Tyron Smith). This team needs to rely on drafting to replace these guys with younger and cheaper talent.

3) Moreso to the identity, Kellen Moore needs to go. I don’t personally have an issue with him, but this experiment has clearly ran it’s course. Mike McCarthy should have full say of who will be his OC, and live or die by that decision. If he cannot bring someone in to find success, then that is telling of our coaching staff from the top down and let’s you know if we need to start planning on looking somewhere else.

3a) Whomever is brought in, absolutely needs to change the philosophy to a run first team. I understand that was somewhat the focus in spurts during this year, but the lack of consistency, creativity, and commitment leads me to think they need to tear it down and start from scratch.

3b) I’ve been well on record that Zeke is one of my favorite players, but he absolutely must not be on this team next year. Honestly I think I’m ok with franchising Pollard, but I think the team would be wise to focus more on the OL either by draft or FA and lean on that and get younger and fresher legs in the backfield and let both of our guys walk.

4) This team has GOT to start bringing in at least mid-tier Free Agents. We cannot be reactive during that time period and rely on bargain bin deals to get us by. Virtually every team left in the playoffs has brought in ourside talent by that method and it is proving dividends. Honestly I don’t want to hear about cap constraints, as all 32 teams abide by that same cap and it doesn’t seem to stop them.

5) I would like to see them be aggressive on the interior DL, whether it’s by committing high draft capital, swinging a trade with a proven vet, or bringing someone in via FA. Dallas needs to double down on their pressure rate by bringing someone who can truly cause havoc and help take some attention away from Micah.

6) Bring in real competition at the QB position. This is the least likely to happen, but I’d love to see them draft a QB during the second day, or bring in an established veteran to at the very least apply pressure to Dak and send the message that lackluster performances are not excusable, and you are playing for your right to be the starter of this team.

I apologize for the long post in advance, but it seems like we have nothing but time on our hands for the next eight months so why the heck not at this point

All great ideas but hate to say it, nothing will ever change. Dallas probably will never sniff a SB again.

Run out Dak’s contract for 2 more years. Franchise him and trade for whatever somebody will give you.

Draft a QB as high as you can.

Yeah, we don’t do quarterback competitions here in Dallas…….don’t want to risk the fragile psyches of our franchise quarterbacks once the BIG contract is inked.

Jerry doesn't operate on a realistic level. The culture here will never change, and we will never have a true identity with Daddy and Son in charge. Even if we had the money, no way we get sick enough of losing and go all-in trying to assemble a juggernaut. That isn't this organization. We make "honest offers", and then explain why we didn't need those players anyway when they go somewhere else and help that team.

Go with a concerted effort to bolster up the middle of the OL, DL and get better at LB.
Trade Diggs, let Zeke and Schultz go, maybe Pollard, too.

Real competition isnt going to happen at QB.

Im not as concerned with the defense as I was late in the season. They played very well in the playoffs.

I think the offensive line is good, but they need to be great for us to really go anywhere. Tyler will improve with a full offseason, and Steele should be 100% by TC ( full tear means less recovery I believe) but I think adding a top line player that really moves the needle is key. I do agree with you that we need to be a run first team.

We do need to improve at WR. Our WR's after Lamb are garbage

There is nothing that can be done as long as the Jones family owns the cowboys. Maximizing jersey sales is higher on the list than winning.

I really think Dak for Rodgers could be good for both teams. Packers get younger, we get better. Both contracts expire in the next few seasons. Imagine this team with Rodgers.

You could have the best players at every position on this team and in truly believe they would find a way to lose. we beat ourselves every year. Maybe It’s the pressure but the dominant 90s team we once saw we will never see an iteration of that again

Not discussing the QB, but other aspects...
Let them walk: Zeke, Schultz and Tyron Smith.
Bring back: Donovan Wilson (plays physical football) and Pollard (our biggest game breaker).
If Zeke isn't running behind the Great Wall, he's just a C minus back, which can be had in the fifth round for league minimum.
Don't commit to Diggs long term. He's an embarrassment.
