One of my favorite podcasts is the Athletic football show.

Every year before the season starts. The hosts outline what they think a successful season looks like for each team.

Obviously the ultimate goal for all teams is winning a Super Bowl. This is not meant to minimize the importance of achieving that goal. But winning a Super Bowl isn’t always realistic for every team. So, it’s meant to be a thoughtful discussion about what you think is a realistic goal for the team for the year.

I thought it would be cool to discuss here.

What looks like success to me for this years cowboys, would be making the playoff and winning a playoff game.

I know when I say that some may say “great that would mean one more year of the nfc title game drought”. And while that’s true. And I want the drought to end.

Given how young the team is. I would still think it’s a successful year if they make the playoffs and win a playoff game. Because I think they are a young team, headed in the right direction and I think they could be even better next year if the front office has a good offseason next year.

I also think if the cowboys failed to win a playoff game or even worse failed to make the playoffs. It could be seen as a disaster and may cost Schotty his job if he misses the playoffs.

So, what does success look like to you all for this years cowboys?

I know I’ll get hate for this but I don’t think our history in the 90’s makes our bar the Super Bowl. In fact the NFCCG drought makes that our first major goal.

Get to an NFCCG and be competitive and in it till the end. We do that I’ll feel like we are genuinely moving in the right direction and the 2026 season will be a successful stepping stone to the next Lombardi.

Yes, would love to win a Super Bowl. But I gotta be honest, a NFCCG appearance with an honest showing would make me feel like this wasn’t a wasted season.

:hammer:
Exactly what I was thinking.

Success would be: some of the young guys develop, something happens where they decide to move on from the Dak era, and something happens where Jerry is out of the picture permanently.

This is the sensible take IMO. After the last 30 years of futility, acting as if the SB is realistic is delusional. Of course total delusion has never stopped many of the posters here.

I'd be ecstatic if they made it that far. Im not expecting anything even close to that lol

Yeah. I was tempted to say NFC title gsme
Appearance as success. I think that’s a fair think to ask for.

Certainly would be nice to have the 30 year monkey off our back

Normally I’d say progress is fine, but the window to win doesn’t stay open long in today’s NFL.

I’m figuring it takes this year, and then the real run takes place in 27 and 28, and either they get it done or they don’t. Then you blow it up, depending.

Dak can’t play forever.
