What’s up fellow Zoners,

I have been reading this board for approximately 4 years now and I don’t think I have ever posted. I come here for the one stop access for all the Cowboys news that is posted on the web. I occasionally read the posted opinions of the football experts on this board and agree with them sometime and get a chuckle out of the others.

In saying that, I was scratching my head when we drafted Fasano. He is listed as one of the top TE’s, but I did not think we needed him until Jerry stated they wanted to run the 2 TE set on a regular basis. That made picking a TE a need. I remember a few years back when Indy drafted Dallas Clark and they already had Pollard on the roster, I was wondering what they were doing. Not anymore.

Sure we think that the Cowboys need help at OL, but we did not think that after 4 games last year. But then Flo gets hurt and Petitti hits the dreaded rookie wall. You say we lost Larry Allen, I say improvement by subtraction. I love LA, If he got his hands on you his very good, but has soon as the DL stunts, he was lost. Flo’s back, Petitti is more experienced and we picked up depth in FA, that is improvement to me. Sure we know that we need help at FS, but with the addition of Marcus Coleman and improving are pass rush by drafting Carp, I think we have improved that area.

And Hatcher was strictly a BPA with upside until we realize next year when Ellis is gone that he was a good pick.

That my fellow Zoners, is my EXPERT Opinion!

GO BOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a great point. I think alot of fans were expecting us to fill needs, but drafting for need does not mean that you are drafting well.

Our recent history is filled with draft failures when we have done this. However, if Jerry is being honest and not blowing smoke up our arses it sounds like the Fasano was a good pick that also filled a need.

These players might very well end up being very good, but I don't think these are the players that we needed at these picks.

I would have liked to see some OL or DT taken, but I would rather have production than Jacob Rogers, Shante Carver, Eb Ekuban, Tony Dixon, etc.

We won't know how this draft was probably for at least two years.

Besides, it would be almost impossible to do as well as we did last year. Last years draft was unbelievable. I think the only pick that did not get playing time was Beriault, and that was b/c of injury.

You could be exeactly right and I do respect your opinion, but why would they pick them then? Does anyone of us know exactly what the "COWBOYS PLAN" was going into this draft? No we don't.

If the Cowboys would have made it known before the draft that they were looking to change their base offense to a 2 TE set, we might have looked at this pick a little differently. You need depth at the TE position if you are going to run the 2 TE set as your base offense. The TE in this offense is like what the LB is to the 3-4.

If you have heard or read what Jerry was saying, I can't help but look at what Pittsburg and Indy have done with this as their base offense and get excited.

We will see.

That is certainly a fair opinion. I would suggest you listen to Ireland or JJ and their explaination of the Cowboys plan. A real eye opening interview of each and one that will clear everything up.
